ACTIVITY 2

SIMPLE ACTIVITY: Reflective Analysis Analyze the following print advertisements and determine if these
are ethical or not. Consider the following guide questions in your analysis.

1. What is the message of the ad?

2. How is the message underscored? What semiotics are used (text? images? others?)

3. Is there any individual or group that may be offended by the ad?

4. Is there another way of presenting or delivering the message?

5. Do you think the ad is ethical?

Reflective Analysis. Briefly explain your assessment of the ad,

with focus on the five questions.

The message of the ads is all about the discrepancy of the

people I know we are not same in color, culture, country,
habits, and etc. and I know even we are not same but we are
same in heart to respect others even we’re not same It shows
the effect of their product even they are not same the
product promote what it can help to our skin and you can see
that the woman's skin is more beautiful and whiter after using
their product than women before using their product.

They used a picture that shows a woman before and after

using their product and the picture show the good effect of
using their products. They also used text and written in the ad
that the product would make the user's skin more beautiful
within a week. They use a picture to promote their product to
easily encourage the people and to know what are the
benefits if they use the product it shows that if we have unity we can build a good
communication to other even they are not same color and others. I think no one are offend
because they only promote product and what are the benefits they are not critique the people
they just to know that the dove product is to be good in skin we all know that even they are not
same color they have respect the people I know that in others the ads are not good because for
them they criticism the people on the ads but its say that we are one even were not same in color
I know its very hard for other to be like others white but don’t worry god make us even they are
black they heart are very pure and don’t judge the people by its color judge them what is the
good thing that they do. I think yes because they can use other ads to promote the dove like
family that show the unity and closeness of the family that because of dove and I know that ads
is good that’s why no one can offend or criticism.in some part the ads are offend like the black
and I know we can find other idea to promote the product. I think it is ethics because there is no
intent to harm, but damage to a certain group is inevitable because of the message or the channel
used to relay the message, still considered unethical.

Did you notice the placement of the “before” and “after” texts? Did you notice that the “before” text
was right under the colored woman, while the brown-skinned model is at the middle, and the fair-
skinned woman is at the far right, below the text “’after”? How does this relate to the product tagline,
“Visibly more beautiful skin…”? Can you relate this with the popular yet stereotypical Filipino belief that
“white is beautiful” hence the proliferation of whitening products, such as soap and lotion? Try to reflect
on this next advertisement, which was found to be sexist by most observers:

Reflective Analysis. Briefly explain your assessment of the ad, with focus on the five questions
in the previous page.

1. What is the message of the ad?

2. How is the message underscored? What semiotics are used (text? images? others?)

3. Is there any individual or group that may be offended by the ad?

4. Is there another way of presenting or delivering the message?

5. Do you think the ad is ethical?

I think the ads is all about the publication of an

advertisement that is extremely offensive and insulting to a
women They have completely missed the point that there
are damaging consequences of such images for everyone.
Although it is a woman who is the object of ridicule, and
the man is depicted in a dominant position, men often find
these images demeaning of women. The impact of such
images on the education children and young people, about
power in gender relationships, is destructive as it promotes
a passivity-dominance model of a bygone age, but one
which underpins domestic violence and abusive, unhealthy
relationships. They use image to promote the product but it is criticism to a women because I
see in the image they insulting the women I know she is fat but we are not allowed to insulting
him even other people I know our size are not same but we need to respect all because not our
physical appearance are dictating who we are, we have many differences and we need no accept
it and be proud of it, I know sometimes it hurts even me calling orders fat but I say to them “ yes
I’m fat because we have food” we need to defend our self to those people that always judge us.
Yes it may offend other people in other country it is bad for them because there self-stem are get
down I know a days people are so very judge mental but we need to speak and to say them we
are not fat because fat is the new sexy. I think theirs many idea that not criticism to a people I
know it’s better than to look other idea than insulting a women, They need to change the image
placed in the ad because it is causing a bad image in women because of the image of the naked
women in the bed in the ad. They need to change it or replace the image in the ad which will
show what the ad wants to convey without causing adverse effects on the people. The ad is
unethical because it might offend the viewer’s especially the parents with their children because
of the image shown in the ad. It also a bad image to women because of the illustration of a naked
woman in the ad and it is considered as unethical.
