Sociogram For___________________________________________

A sociogram is an artistic design that depicts the relationships between characters in a

story and explores their points-of-view. The following explains how to design a sociogram:

1. Select a character from the story/poem—Teacher/Lawyer/Speaker/Reader(?).

2. Draw a shape, picture or symbol to represent the character.

3. Evaluate the character’s relationship with the other characters in the story/poem:
 How did the other characters react to the same situation or event?
 What thoughts or beliefs do you think the characters hold?
 Why do you think each character acted the way they did?
 What does each character feel for one another?
 What do the characters think of each other?

4. Define the relationship between the characters using a word or phrase. Write this
word or phrase in your sociogram

5. Describe this relationship by using dialogue from the poem or illustrating the setting.
Write the dialogue or draw your illustration in your sociogram.

6. Be prepared to present your sociogram to your group. You will need to be able to
explain every item within your sociogram.
