Self Efficacy and Why Believing in Yourself Matters

When obstacles come your way can you work past it? That's where Self-efficacy comes into the
situation self-efficacy is “the belief in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action
required to manage prospective situations.” (www.verywellmind.com) self-efficacy is when someone
believes in their selves no matter what, they believe you can achieve anything you put your mind to
without doubting yourself. Self-efficacy falls under the category of confidence or feeling or belief that
one can rely on someone or something. Self-efficacy is just self-confidence. It plays a major role in
how challenges, goals, and tasks are completed. Having self is very important because if you don't
have self-efficacy you don't believe in yourself so you won’t work hard to accomplish your goals. Self-
efficacy is the first step towards success. Having high self-efficacy helps you get your emotion,
thoughts, and feeling under control. Even in school, you can set higher goals making you feel good
about yourself. You can build your self-efficacy by remembering times you did well just by working
hard. Pulling from your own experience of achieving a goal can boost your self-efficacy. You seeing
someone working hard towards the same goal as you can make you feel better. Talking to someone
you trust and them boosting your confidence in telling you that you can achieve your goal also
reminding you that you are able to do anything. Having a positive attitude can also be important in the
process of building self-efficacy. If you are nervous just focus on something that makes you happy;
stay positive and push forward. Also, having self-efficacy helps you try new things. By believing in
yourself is the first step that lets you take yourself to new heights. ”Like sports players set themselves
challenging goals and maintain a strong commitment to them. They heighten and sustain their efforts
in the face of failure. They quickly recover their sense of efficacy after failures or setbacks. They
attribute failure to insufficient effort or deficient knowledge and skills which are acquirable. They
approach threatening situations with an assurance that they can exercise control over them.”
(www.uky.edu) Self-efficacy is an important aspect of everyone's life. Self-efficacy is important
because it is making your own life decisions. How are you going to push toward being successful if
you don’t do anything that helps you push you towards success? For example, if you want to be a
math teacher but don't go to school and when you do go you don't pay attention. So now you have F’s
and stay back. You have no job no colleges are going to accept someone who grades make them
look bad. So now you can't achieve your lifelong goal. Having self-efficacy would have made you
push yourself towards your goal. Making you work towards something hard or not.
