1. What is an older adult?


- An older adult refers to people ages 65 and above. Most people often called them as
“Grandparents”. Older adults frequently have less capacity for regeneration. They are
more prone to diseases, syndromes, traumas, and illnesses than younger adults. Their
bodies often cannot handle such activities that needing of assistance. Older adults
provide happiness to the younger generations by learning from the past experiences of
the older adults.

2. How do you view these kinds of patient?


- I view them as very sensitive people that require a great care. They are prone to such
diseases which us a future nurse must take care of. These kinds of patient are
perceived as having wrinkles, forgetful and having slow activities. They viewed as
lonely people because they are waiting for their time to come because they already live
their life. Most people considered them as burden to the family because of their
situations and sometimes being rejected.

3. Do you have an older adult in your life? Who?


- I have an older adult in my life. She is my grandmother named Evelyn Abana. She is
the mother of my mother. She is now living for 90 years of existence. Despite of her age,
she is still strong and can do such work like household chores with great memory.

4. How do you take care of the person in number 3?


- The moment she got sick, we did our part as her family by collaborating to bought
medicine and food that is good for her. We bathe her and help her to be clean every day.
At the afternoon, we brought her to the beach, since our house is near the beach, and walk
by her side while we listen to her stores from her youth. We even bought her fruits for her
to be healthy. We sometimes we helped her went to the market to buy ingredients because
she loves to cook.

5. Why is it important for us nurse to take part in the care of these older adult patients?
- It is important to take part in the care of older adult patients because our existence will
not be here because of them which we must give back to where we are come from. In
order to ensure that older adult patients can maintain their mobility and activity level
for as long as necessary, we as a nurse must work with our older patients to safeguard
their health and adjust to changes in their mental and physical capabilities. They
require a feeling of belonging. By providing them with quality elderly care, with the
support of consultants, you are preventing loneliness and depression. Us nurse can
contribute to maintaining the social life and sense of belonging that they need to feel
empowered and motivated.
