Context and Rationale

The most important aspect in the teaching-learning process

is the teacher. Teacher is an openly emulated role model. Good
teachers are critical to the efficient operation of the
educational system and the enhancement of learning quality.
Teachers in the new normal face challenges brought by the COVID-
19 pandemic which posted rapid adjustments in the educational
system (Alvarez, 2021; Anzaldo 2021; Castroverde & Acala,
2021). Because of these changes, many teachers have encountered
challenges in how they plan to continue to teach their students.
Teachers' tasks and responsibilities have expanded. Teachers need
to continuously improve themselves professionally in order to
keep abreast of the latest trends, teaching approaches, and
techniques in the education field. They needed to learn more than
the students in order to prepare for this new normal

Teachers have also had to deal with too many obstacles in

order to handle their students. Instead of becoming bored with
online lessons and modules, they needed to come up with fresh
techniques to make their students appreciate the necessity of
learning. They exert effort on behalf of their students. Teachers
have also started a new learning phase they became more flexible
and learned how to adapt in times of crisis. They still continue
to think of ways to educate their students and to give them the
highest quality of education. Teachers’ roles are critical in
ensuring that students learn successfully.

Nowadays, Some teachers reported being busier than they were

before since they needed to come up with different learning
modalities such as online distance learning, blended learning,
homeschooling, and modular distance learning, and many of them
reported being physically and emotionally exhausted due to having
extra workload, health risks, and additional expenses, which
cause teachers to beg for donations of bond paper and ink to
print. Also, paper work that is not related to teaching. This can
have a negative impact on teachers' intentions to leave their
current work, find another opportunity or job, and, most
importantly, their work performance.
Job or work performance is defined as the actions of a
person or group during a task. Job performance is also the
product of a combination of an individual’s motivation and
ability. In addition, it is important that schools know how to
maintain the good work performance of their teachers. Having a
good job or work performance is important to ensure the quality
of instruction taking place at school.

Furthermore, teachers can help a lot in our lives today, not
only in the lives of students, but also in the lives of parents
who do not have much knowledge in teaching their children. Many
teachers also give different opinions about the changes they face
in the country's educational system. Therefore, teachers should
also pay attention to whether they can work well or whether their
work performance is good. We just have to know the challenges
they encounter so we know how we can help them to make their work
easier.

Through this information, we the researchers are motivated

to conduct this study to find out the challenges encountered by
the Bongabon Senior High School. The research focused on senior
high school teachers in Bongabon since when the pandemic started
in our country. The school is located in Brgy. Sinipit, Bongabon,
Nueva Ecija and is the first independent senior high school in
Nueva Ecija. The study used a phenomenological qualitative
research design. Collection of data is through a one-on-one
interview, which was recorded, after which it was analyzed,
interpreted, and summarized. Analyses were based on clustering
the results to create themes. The output for this study will be a
Human Resource Development Intervention Plan.
Conceptual Framework

This study aims to incorporate interventions to lessen the

burden of the teachers of senior high school in terms of
performance matter. Those challenges that they encountered has a
significant impact to teachers’ performance in delivering lesson
to students. This determines the performance of every senior high
school teacher, also this contributes to the success rate of the
students.

Another challenge that some teachers is that some teachers

don’t aspire to become a teacher as their career, some are
forced, some are being decided by their parents. Being a teacher
needs dedication to their work to ensure a better future to the
students. It is important for teachers to be dedicated with their
career it is because this is one of the key foundations of giving
their students a quality education. (C. Contributor 2019)

As stated above this study aims to incorporate interventions

to lessen the burden of the teacher, with that said stated above
are the challenges that all teachers are facing throughout their
career. Taking into account the factors indicated with a positive
intervention higher success rate for students achievements.

Statement of the Problem

This study deals with the challenges encountered by the

Bongabon Senior High School teachers. This study answers the
following questions:

1. What are the challenges encountered by the Bongabon Senior

High School teachers?

2. What Human Resource Development Intervention Plan can be

used based on the findings of the study?
Significance of the Study

This will be significant to the following:

Teachers. It will help teachers become more aware of potential

concerns they may face in the new normal, and it will prepare
them for such situations by allowing them to come up with
alternative solutions to their problems.

Admin and Staff. The result guide in this study can help
administrators have efficient and effective plans for
teachers. It will also help them identify specific demographic
characteristics of the teachers that could influence work
performance.

Students. They will be aware of what challenges their teacher has

encountered in giving them knowledge, and they will know how they
can help them.

Researcher. The researcher finds this study very important

because it will encourage teachers to conduct periodic self-
assessment to improve their work performance.

Future Researchers. To give additional information to researchers

who want to conduct further research in the related field.

Colleague. This study is also beneficial to colleagues because

they will know when or how they can help their co-workers to
improve the work performance of their co-workers. It is also
beneficial here because they will be aware of what is happening
or have encountered challenges with their co-worker so they can
motivate them.
Scope and Delimitation

This study focused on the challenges encountered by the

Bongabon Senior High School teachers in terms of their work

performance. The researcher used qualitative observation.

Respondents of the study were 10 teachers from Bongabon Senior

High School teachers, to be specific in Brgy. Sinipit Bongabon,

Nueva Ecija they were asked for an one on one interview regarding

to prepared question. Through the respondents, the researchers

determined the challenges they encountered since the pandemic

started in our country. The findings of this study may further

help school administrators to review existing policies and

practices in the hope of improving work performance among the

teachers of Bongabon Senior High School. This will be the basis

for planning programs for teacher development that will lead to

the teacher’s professional growth. It will also help them

identify specific demographic characteristics of the teachers

which could influence the work performance of teachers.

Chapter 2
METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design used in the study.

It will also include the respondents and the data gathering
tools, together with the data gathering procedure used in the
analysis of the data.

Research Design

This study utilized the qualitative phenomenological study.

Phenomenological qualitative research design focuses on the
experiences of an individual or group. It attempts to understand
people’s perceptions, perspectives, and understandings of a
particular situation. In this study, the phenomenological
research design was used in examining the challenges encountered
by the Bongabon Senior High School. Phenomenology is an approach
to qualitative research that focuses on the commonality of a
lived experience within a particular group. (Creswell, 2013).

This study used interview guide questions.

Data Gathering Instrument

The following were used as data gathering instrument

Tape recorder. The researchers asked permission to the

respondents and recorded the answers that given by the respondent
as an answer with the questions provided.

Interview Guide Questions. This is defined as set of questions

that given to the respondents to portray something in accurate
manner.

Data Gathering Procedure

In the process of gathering data, the researchers will seek
permission from the school admin and principal of Bongabon Senior
High School regarding the conduct of the study. After giving
permission from the school admin and principal, we will also ask
for permission from our respondents. Since our respondents are
the teachers of Bongabon Senior High School, it will be based on
their availability, willingness, and voluntarism. And we will
explain to them the purpose of the study. Since this study is a
one-on-one interview, interview-guide questions were fielded to
the respondents. The researchers kept the confidentiality of the
respondents by not stating their names. They were assured of
confidentiality with their answers. After the interview we will
analyzed, interpreted, and summarized the answers of our
respondents.

Data Analysis
In the analysis of findings, the Collaizi method was used. The
method was used in determining the profile of the respondents,
the challenges encountered by the Bongabon Senior High School
teachers. Colaizzi’s (1978) distinctive seven step process
provides a rigorous analysis, with each step staying close to the
data. The end result is a concise yet all-encompassing
description of the phenomenon under study, validated by the
participants that created it. The method depends upon rich first-
person accounts of experience; these may come from face-to-face
interviews, but can also be obtained in multiple other ways;
written narratives, blogs, research diaries, online interviews
and so on Psychologist(2015). The stages are illustrated in the
table below:

Figure 3: Colaizzi’s Method of Qualitative Analysis

STEP DESCRIPTIONS
1. Familiarization The researcher familiarises
him or herself with the data,
by reading through all the
participant accounts several
times.
2. Identifying Significant The researcher identifies all
Statements statements in the accounts
that are of direct relevance
to the phenomenon under
investigation.
3. Formulating Meanings The researcher identifies
meanings relevant to the
phenomenon that arise from a
careful consideration of the
significant statements.
4. Clustering Themes The researcher clusters the
identified meanings into
themes that are common across
all accounts. Again bracketing
of pre-suppositions is
crucial, especially to avoid
any potential influence of
existing theory.
5. Developing an Exhaustive The researcher writes a full
Description and inclusive description of
the phenomenon, incorporating
all the themes produced at
step 4.
6. Producing the Fundamental The researcher condenses the
Structure exhaustive description down to
a short, dense statement that
captures just those aspects
deemed to be essential to the
structure of the phenomenon.
7. Seeking Verification of the The researcher returns the
Fundamental Structure fundamental structure
statement to all participants
(or sometimes a subsample in
larger studies) to ask whether
it captures their experience.
He or she may go back and
modify earlier steps in the
analysis in the light of this
feedback.
Findings from the study become the basis for a Human Resource
Development Intervention Plan by doing a concrete analysis and
compilation of all the answers in the interview.
