EIC4 – Test Format and Content (Online)

Textbook: English File Intermediate 3e, Units: 6-10

There are TWO major tests in a semester: Midterm and Final. For each major test, the Speaking Test and the Written Test are conducted on two separate dates.
Students have 90 minutes for the online Midterm and the online Final Tests.

A. Written Test

The Written Test contains 5 sections: Listening, Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading and Writing for a total of 80 marks.

Skills Midterm (90 minutes), Units 6-8 Final (90 minutes), Units 6-10
Listening 1 Part: The audio is played TWICE. The audio is taken from the 1 Part: The audio is played TWICE. The audio is taken from English File
(10 marks) student’s book or workbook of English File Intermediate 3e. This Intermediate Plus 3e workbook, student’s book, or another textbook of
part contains 10 multiple choice questions. Intermediate (B1) level. This part contains 10 multiple choice questions.

Vocabulary This section contains a total of 15 multiple choice questions. All the
(15 marks) words/phrases in the section are taken from English File Intermediate
3e student’s book, including Vocabulary Bank, and workbook.
Grammar This section contains a total of 15 multiple choice questions. All the
(15 marks) grammar points in the section are taken from English File Intermediate
3e student’s book, including Grammar Bank, and workbook.
Reading Part 1: The text is taken from English File Intermediate 3e, student’s
(20 marks) book or workbook. This part contains 10 multiple choice questions.
Part 2: The text is taken from another textbook of Intermediate (B1-)
level. This part contains 10 multiple choice questions.
Writing Students can choose ONE of the two tasks to complete the composition for a maximum score of 20 marks. The two tasks are taken from a list of
(20 marks) Writing Topics that is sent to students before the test date.
This section contains a total of 15 multiple choice questions. All the

student’s book, including Vocabulary Bank, and workbook.

grammar points in the section are taken from English File Intermediate 3e

book or workbook. This part contains 10 multiple choice questions.
Part 2: The text is taken from another textbook of Intermediate (B1)
level. This part contains 10 multiple choice questions.

B. Speaking Test

Students can get a maximum score of 20 marks.

Each student makes a 4-minute video to give a short talk based on the given topic and answer follow-up questions.
The student’s performance is scored on the scale of 0 to 20 marks, based on 4 criteria: fluency, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
