Activity in CE131: Construction Project Management

1. What is construction project management in civil engineering?

Coordinating and organizing every stage of the project's life

cycle, from conception to conclusion, is what Construction project
management is all about. It is a comprehensive technique to complete
projects on time and within budget. Moreover, a Construction
Management degree prepares students to take on all of the on-site
tasks of a construction project, such as budget management and
collaboration with contractors, architects, and other specialists.

2. What does a construction project manager do?

Construction project managers are accountable for the success

of a construction project. They administer every facet, including overall
project planning, resource distribution, risk management,
benchmarking, managing staff, and managing relationships with key
stakeholders. Project managers also ensure that timeframes and
budgets are met.

3. What are the things you need to learn in order to become a project
manager?

A usual criterion for becoming a project manager is at least

three years of experience in a relevant function, formal training, and the
PMP certification. You will also need to learn to incorporate a solid
understanding of business cases and risk management processes;
expert knowledge to meet specific circumstances; and skills such as
proven project management and self-management skills; strong
leadership skills; the ability to monitor and control budgets; critical
thinking; good communication and negotiation skills; the ability to make
decisions under pressure; the ability to define situations, document
data, and make conclusions; have working knowledge of project
management tools, and many more.

4. What are the different careers in construction project management in

the Philippine construction industry?

Field Engineer, Facilities Manager, Construction Superintendent,

Site Engineer, General contractor, Building Surveyor, Construction
Manager, Building Services Engineer, and Sustainability Consultant
are some of the different careers paths in construction project
management in the Philippine construction industry.
5. Do you consider yourself in the future working in the construction
industry as a project manager? why or why not?

In all honesty, I am still trying to fathom what field is the best fit
for me to specialize in, and I am also quite unsure whether I will take
the licensure exam needed to become an authenticated Professional
Civil Engineer. Ultimately, I might figure this out by the time I have my
on-the-job training since I usually prefer to decide once I get to
experience firsthand how a particular occupation works, or hopefully, I
will acquire revelation and get to decide as soon as possible.
