ABOUT THE TOPIC:
Digital technologies and digitalization are touching every bit of life on the globe and they are significantly enhancing human
comfort. Large volumes of digital data generation, its acquisition, quantum leap in computation power, high speed reliable
internet, young digital savvy work force, industry 4.0 technologies etc. are accelerating digitalization in every sector. It is making
inroads into structural engineering too.
The saying “Prevention is better than cure”, in the current era applies not only to human health but to the structures as well.
Structural health monitoring and assessment are essential for on-time, cost-effective evaluation of structural integrity and
maintenance to improve performance of existing structures.
With the advent of digital technologies, this task gets less challenging with time. It would be interesting to understand and
appreciate the technologies that are helping in such changes.
This webinar focuses on digital technologies which can complement structural engineering with the aim of increasing the life
span of a critical structure by collection and analysis of influential data related to health of such critical structures through field
deployed sensors and data analytics.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Ms. Sahana B. Gangal is a structural engineer currently working as a Senior Engineer at Tata Consulting Engineers Limited,
Bangalore. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering. She started her career as an Engineer Trainee under the Young
Engineer Development Program at TCE. She was involved in projects related to design &automation of structures by integrating
the inputs from multiple disciplines and generating 3D models to optimise design effort. The work also involves generation of
standard user interface forms using Excel VBA to reduce errors and to produce quality designs in less time. She is currently
working in detailed engineering of international power plant projects. As a young engineer, she believes in continuous learning
and application of new technologies in order to excel technically in the structural engineering domain. She perceives
that application of digital technologies in structural engineering would be a necessity and priority in the near future.
Ms. Rithika Nanaiya is a structural engineer currently working as Assistant Manager at Tata Consulting Engineers Limited,
Bangalore. She holds a Master’s degree in Structural engineering and passionate about digital technologies. She started her career
in Oil & Gas industry and then moved on to Power (Renewable and Thermal) sector at TCE wherein she has been involved in
several domestic and international power plant projects. She is currently focussing on structural design of the various facilities
within the power plants. Considering the fast-paced nature of the industry, she firmly believes in the need to make best use of
the latest developments and technologies in her field of work in order to deliver innovative designs with better quality.
