When the rise time of VDD is very fast, there will be a
time delay before the Power-on Reset (POR) signal will
rise to a logic high (TTP2PORH). This delay is in the RC 28 ms

How Crystal Frequencies affect Start-up time
Both the PIC16CXXX and PIC17CXXX families may
have start-up times that include the contributions of the
oscillator. Table 5 shows how the oscillator can affect FIGURE 9: POR DELAY FOR FAST VDD RISE
each mode of operation, with Table 6 giving the reset TIME
time that an oscillator generates. This time can be used

in the equation to calculate the total reset time, at the Voltage
given frequency. This time may vary slightly due to the
initial start-up characteristics of the crystal/oscillator 1.2V - 2.0V
circuit.

account when determining the time that
the device must be held in reset.

Note: Special Function Register data memory locations, in Bank 1, are specified by their true address in the file
PIC16CXXX.INC. The use of the MPASM assembler will generate a warning message, when those labels
are used with direct addressing. Warning messages can be turned off with an assembler option.

• The PICmicro family meets the specifications contained in the Microchip Data Sheet.
• Microchip believes that its family of PICmicro microcontrollers is one of the most secure products of its kind on the market today,
when used in the intended manner and under normal conditions.
• There are dishonest and possibly illegal methods used to breach the code protection feature. All of these methods, to our knowl-
edge, require using the PICmicro microcontroller in a manner outside the operating specifications contained in the data sheet.
The person doing so may be engaged in theft of intellectual property.
• Microchip is willing to work with the customer who is concerned about the integrity of their code.
• Neither Microchip nor any other semiconductor manufacturer can guarantee the security of their code. Code protection does not
mean that we are guaranteeing the product as “unbreakable”.
• Code protection is constantly evolving. We at Microchip are committed to continuously improving the code protection features of
our product.
