As discussed in the reading, the purpose and structure of the American education system have

been changed throughout the years. Interpret the general purpose of education, the purpose of
education in the country you are currently in, and how it has changed over time.

General Purpose of education


General Purpose of education would be broken down into three. Firstly, education should enable
young people to become active and compassionate citizens. According to Schools Minister Nick
Gibb (2015), education is seen as the engine of our economy, playing a role as the foundation of
our culture, and the essentially- prepared path for mature life. On a broader view of education,
educators are responsible for academically instructing the next informed citizens and have them
diffuse a thirst for knowledge. Further looking, Education should prepare young people for
work and citizenship. That means, Education should enable students to become economically
responsible and independent by securing them a fulfilling career and thereby engaging them in
becoming active, and proactive, democratic participants

Viet Nam education system purpose


For each social development process, the purpose of education will change and correspond to
different stages. Educational goals are divided into three basic categories. They are:

 Educational goals approach to tradition


This is the process by which people are taught knowledge, skills, and habits that help form a
standard and responsive person to society's requirements.
 Individually accessible educational goals
This goal is often applied in the US and some Western countries in the period 1970 - 1980. This
goal will help create conditions for people to develop freely
 Traditional educational goals – individual
This goal will combine tradition and individuality. Currently, the goal of traditional education -
individual is being applied by many advanced countries in the world. It helps to limit the
disadvantages and promote the advantages of traditional goals and personal goals at the same
time.

In short, it can be seen that the purpose of education is to provide and equip knowledge and
skills. At the same time, current Vietnamese education trains people's morality, personality and
ways of life to help people integrate into their community.

In 2017, another big change took place. instead of taking a combination of Essay and Multiple-
choice in 8 tests, the exam went in the direction of using multiple-choice questions (except for
Literature and Literature). ) and there were only 4 exams left, in which the subjects of Physics -
Chemistry - Biology were placed in the combination of Natural Science, History - Geography -
Civics in the Social Science combination.

Up to now, the great changes of Vietnamese education after ten years with the first batch of
students taking this exam, who are also the beginning citizens of Gen Z have completed their
university programs and started appearing on the job market. The National High School Exam
still shows its positive sides and benefits which are eventually come to perfection. The exam
helps each student to no longer be busy running after the "hot" exam preparation furnaces like a
furnace, not to make parents worry and spend money for their children to go to the city a
hundred kilometers away from home to take the exam.

It is also because of the changes in the examination system that university admissions also have.
Instead of just relying on the results of the general exam, now universities are more proactive in
the entrance examination. There are many enrollment options offered such as based on academic
records, combined consideration or even many schools have started to organize separate exams
to ensure entrance standards.

What is more, social justice in access to education has made great progress, especially for ethnic
minorities, rural areas, targeted policies and people with difficult circumstances, gender equality
is guaranteed. The quality of education and training has been improved, contributing to
answering the human resource requirements for socio-economic development, national
construction and defense. Technical basis of the education and training system has been
increased and gradually modernized. Education socialization and international cooperation have
been strongly promoted, achieving many important results.
