1 Overview
The active antenna unit (AAU) is a new type of RF module following the radio frequency unit
(RFU) and remote radio unit (RRU). It incorporates the functions of RRUs and conventional
antennas and requires fewer site resources.
The AAU5831 is one of Huawei's main products that implement massive MIMO in the 5G
NR network. The following figure shows the position of the AAU5831 in the 5G NR network.
The active module of the AAU5831 supports 32T32R. Through a sharp increase of transmit
and receive antenna channels, this product provides greater diversity, array, spatial
multiplexing, and interference suppression gains. This helps operators maximize the use of
existing site and spectrum resources, enhance the system performance, and improve wireless
network capacity. Passive ports of the AAU5831 support 4T4R and 8T8R RRUs. A single
antenna can solve the site issues encountered by customers.
2 Product Characteristics
Leading Performance
Multiple channels
The active module of the AAU5831 uses the massive MIMO technology and supports
32T32R. Massive MIMO features the adoption of massive antenna arrays for joint signal
reception and demodulation or transmission, and therefore significantly enhances
single-user link performance and multi-user spatial multiplexing capability, and
improves system link quality and transmission rates when compared with traditional
multiple-antenna technologies. Massive MIMO also enables the system to flexibly adjust
beam forms in both the horizontal and vertical planes. Passive ports of the AAU5831
support 4T4R and 8T8R RRUs. A single antenna can solve the site issues encountered by
customers.
High power
The AAU5831 adopts the industry-leading power amplification technology,
Huawei-developed IF and RF chip, and unique antenna element technology. The module
features high power, large bandwidth, and small size. The advanced power amplification
technology achieves a maximum of 240 W power and supports a wider coverage area.

Item Specifications
The power spectral density (PSD) must be less than or equal to 4 W/MHz.
NR static sensitivity: When the ambient temperature is 25°C, the test configuration should comply with
3GPP TS 38.104 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 51 RBs).
The typical power consumption is measured when the module runs with 50% load at the 25°C ambient
temperature. The actual typical power consumption has a 10% deviation from this value.
