Rosemary and her plan to help Miss Smith? how might this story have been
different if told by an omniscient narrator
Well, the third person point of view make us see a superficial motives of Rosemary.
It transmits us that childish reason of Rosemary for help the girl. An omniscient
narrator may have transmit us the feelings and emotions of Rosemary and it will
explain to us that Rosemary is very insecure of herself.
2 draw conclusions reread paragraph 60 - 62 why does Phillip speak so
enthusiastically to his wife about miss Smith’s attractiveness explain
Phillip realize how insecure Rosemary about bringing the girl so he started to tell
how beautiful the poor little girl was.
3 analyze what theme about wealthy people does Mansfield convey in “a cup of
tea”? How do rosemary’s action and motivation in trying to help Miss Smith
relates to this theme.
Appearance vs reality is one of the clearly present themes. Her actions with the girl
clearly represents the kid because she was giving a girl a false appearance of her
until her husband appears.
4 connect a cup of tea is set in a time when wealthy woman did not have
professions and were expected to appear fashionable. How does this context
influence your evaluation of rosemary’s character
She is a women that have not the opportunity of being in relation with other
people so she must think that appearance is all that matters. Maybe is harder for
her to understand people than it is to Phillip.
5. Notice and note Rosemary abandons her plan after Philip makes her aware of
miss Smith’s beauty. has the realization changed Rosemary? why or why not?
Well my evaluation have not changed because she still looks for a kind of validation
from Phillip and still selfish.
