Dear Dr. Zhiping Luo,

I am writing to apply for the “Postdoctoral Fellow” position posted on the website of
Fayetteville State University. Throughout this letter I would like to explain why I fit into
this position and in your group and how this training can help me to reach my career goal.
I have completed my BS and MS from Bangladesh and then moved to South Korea to
complete a PhD and postdoctoral training. I worked on a number of projects during my
doctoral and postdoctoral training. I have independently identified most of the research
problems associated with those projects and designed experimentation with the available
resources to answer the questions. From the beginning of my carrier I have been
passionately doing research and generated many ideas for my research groups and
worked with guidance to my fellow lab members. I synthesized several
functional/composite materials including graphene oxide, metal-oxide nanoparticles,
metal-organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and zeolites. I am skilled in
many modern characterization and analytical techniques including XRD, XPS, SEM,
TEM, TGA, DSC, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, NH3-TPD, GC-MS, HPLC, etc.
I have good communicating and writing skills as well; the total number of my
publications is 34 (with ~1850 citations) with the other 3 manuscripts under
review/submission and 1 manuscript in preparation. I participated many international
conferences and presented orally. Over the years, I developed skills in experimental
works and writing and grew my passion for research. I am an advocate of popularizing
science education among young adults and have written 4 books related to science and
edited another 4 books in my native language.
My passion in research and advancement of scientific understanding is rooted to my
desire to be an independent principal investigator. I moved from Bangladesh to South
Korea to become an independent PI and it appeared that a postdoctoral training from an
institute outside of South Korea would have an immersive positive effect to obtain such
position. I believe a training in your laboratory can provide an opportunity to become a
PI.
My decision to apply to your lab has raised from a careful study of your recent
publications and quality of research. Your recent publication indicated that your lab
works in composites of metal-oxide nanoparticles and graphene related materials for
battery application. I have a very high research interest on the fabrication of modern
energy related materials; especially, for battery or solar cell applications.
I believe I can bring my skills of nanomaterials synthesis and characterization in your
laboratory to combine with energy related materials studies in your laboratory for a
bigger achievement. I included my CV with the application package and would be more
than happy to provide any other documents requested. I hope you will find my track
record of research and publication interesting and I will look forward to discussing the
opportunity with you over a video call.

Sincerely,

Imteaz Ahmed
