Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Orak Ridge, TN 37831, USA

Dear Recruiting Officer,

I have more than seven years of experience in absorption/separation using nano- and advanced
materials with demonstrated ability of independent research and publications. I am an author in
more than 30 peered reviewed publications most of which are related to adsorption/separations.
My research experience matches with the job posted on Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
website for a postdoctoral research associate on “Nanomaterials for Separation”. I am very
excited about the possibility of continuing my research in this field in a world renowned facility
for energy research like ORNL.

I have been working with advanced/nano- materials for adsorption and separation from the
beginning of my PhD program. I have synthesized many functionalized nanostructured metal-
organic frameworks (MOFs) and applied them for adsorption/separation. Besides this, I worked
with graphene, carbon nanotubes, nanoporous carbons, nano-sized metal oxides and made
composite with MOF using these materials and applied for adsorptive separation. I have also
been working with solid catalysts of various kinds and applied them for heterogeneous catalysis
including separation. I am well known about many modern analytical and characherization
techniques (e.g. XPS, HRTEM, GCMS, LCMS etc.) and synthesis methods (e.g. microwave
radiation and ultrasound system) for the preparation and application of aforementioned materials.
Additionally, I have a great interest in modern energy research including battery, solar cell and
super-capacitor applications for which I worked occasionally in trial basis.
I am interested to become an independent principal investigator in a research institute or in a
research university and I have known about the ORNL for a long time through one of my best
friends. He was a graduate student at the University of Kentucky but used to visit ORNL for
nanomaterial research. He has painted the ORNL as a research heaven for nanomaterials and
energy. This job opportunity has excited me with the possibility of working in such a world
renowned facility with extraordinary researchers from diverse backgrounds and multidisciplinary
nature. I believe ORNL will be a very good place to obtain training to reach my career goals
while contributing my skills and experiences in the current research. I am an energetic,
hardworking and liberal person and a quick learner since I am passionate to science in every
aspect.

I included my CV with the application package and would be more than happy to provide any
other documents requested. I hope you will find my track record of research and publication
interesting and I will look forward to discuss about the opportunity with you over a video call.
Sincerely,

Imteaz Ahmed
