3 INSTALLATION
3.1 GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
VEGA II is a multifunctional FLOW COMPUTER suitable for one or two meters working at the same time. It can be mounted directly on the body of any p. d.
(positive displacement) meter, or receive counting pulses from a remote pulses emitter. If VEGA II is mounted directly on the meter, the pulses emitter is located
inside the unit and rotates driven by the shaft of the meter.
VEGA II consists of an aluminium alloy box containing the electronic circuits. The box consists of two parts: a "base” that can be fixed on the meter, and a
"cover". The electronic circuits are mounted completely on the base, and this makes installation, cabling and maintenance operations easier, as the cover can be
completely removed when required.
VEGA II can be installed on sites with danger of explosion being according to ATEX (INERIS approval n°00ATEX0025).
VEGA II is also certified as being completely weatherproof (IP 66) and as a secure device according to EN61010-1

3.2 MECHANICAL CONSIDERATIONS

VEGA II must be fixed by using the 4 holes M6 located under the base (see fig.3).
Before the installation let consider that:
 The location of VEGA II should be selected to permit:
a) an easy viewing of the display and access to the keypad by all the users;
b) an easy opening for the electrical technicians.
In order to open VEGA II the following operations must be done:
- pull out the 10 screws M8x25 located under the base (see fig.3)
- lift the cover for 20 cm at least
 The entrance of the electrical cables must be done using the 6 cable entries (n° 4=¾” NPT and n° 2=1” NPT ) located under the base (see fig.3).
 VEGA II is delivered with gland entries closed by plastic threaded screw-caps. The not utilized entries must be closed with metallic screws-plugs conforming
to EN50018-par.11.9.
WARNING
In warm climates, VEGA II should be shaded from direct sunlight

3.3 ELECTRICAL CONSIDERATIONS

All wiring must be routed into VEGA II through the cable entries located under the base (see fig.3 ) taking in consideration the following suggestions:
 do not mix AC and DC wiring and signals, that means don’t use the same entry for AC and DC wires, don’t round that wires inside the housing;
 do not route cables with low level signal (pulse emitter, serial lines, temperature sensor, ...) with cables with strong signals (power supply, solenoids
commands, etc..)
ELECTRICAL EARTH
The safe electrical operation of VEGA II depends from correct earth grounding.

NOTES:
 The cables can be different types but with the same characteristics
 Suitable anti over-voltages protection devices must be considered against atmospheric (Suggested: ISOIL PL360/3)
 The communication lines must be segregated from power leading cables. Ducts must be separated
 For W&M reasons is preferable that communication lines for SPD and for other systems (PC, PLC, DCS…) are separated. Using the same multi-cable can occur
problems in case a sealing of the path is required.
 Limiting the number of the devices connected in multi-point; avoid for example to connect together all the VEGAII for the same product. Consider to use more SPD
and printers.
 Choosing cables suitable as electrical characteristics and mechanical strength.

8 ASSOCIABLE ISOIL DEVICES
8.1 ISOIL PULSE EMITTER “EM6422”

Pulse emitter “Encoder EM6422”, developed by ISOIL IMPIANTI, converts the rotary
motion of a Positive Displacement Meter into electric pulses representing the
delivered volume. It allows the pdmeter to interface with an electronic control device
(electronic register, flow computer).
The pulse emitter can be factory installed directly on to the front cover af any new
Isoil pdmeter. By the use of suitable flanges it can be retrofitted onto any existing
ISOIL pdmeter, in place of the mechanical register or other pulse emitters.
Installation on most other manufacturer’s pdmeter is possible as well by means of
special adaptors.
Unlike most similar devices, which use optical sensors, the EM6422 utilizes a state-
of–the-art method, that detects the rotary motion of the pdmeter’s shaft through a
thin separating wall.
The electronic circuit is placed in a sealed housing completely insulated from the
process fluid in the pdmeter. The housing is closed by a cover with o-ring seal and
there is a threaded female inlet for cable glands or counduit entrance.
The number of pulses for every litre changes depending on the type of ISOIL
PDMETER on which is installed the EM6422.
In the following tables are included the nominal number of pulses for litre emitted by
fig.31 – EM6422 EM6422 when is mounted directly on the relative PDMETER.
The “number of pulses” must be programmed inside the parameter K-FACTOR of the
VEGAII.
