Types of paper used for origami

Tant paper

Tant paper is a commonly used solid color paper with the same
color on both sides (double-sided). Origami paper is slightly
heavier than a normal sheet of double sided paper. Tant paper is
not too thick to work with and it is manageable to have perfect
feel and strength for folding. Also it is a dyed fiber paper that
doesn’t break even after repeated crease and can keeps a neat
surface texture.

Washi
Washi is a traditional Japanese paper. The term washi is used to
describe paper that uses local fiber which is made handmade in
the traditional manner. Washi is made using fibers from inside of
the bark of the gampi tree. Washi is more durable than normal pa-
per made from wood pulp. It is used in many traditional arts such
ad origami, shodo and ukiyo-e were all made from washi.

Chiyogami

Japanese chiyogami paper, AKA yuzen. This paper is very stylish


and quality in japanese style. Inspired by kimono fabric, each de-
sign is crafted by artists in japan. Made with traditional base using
kozo, mitsumata and gampi fibers, Chiyogami is very durable.
Also it can be used for sewing and textile art. Usually chiyogami
paper starts as a base sheet of high content kozo and each color
is silkscreened by hand.

Conclusion
Any paper that you can fold will do. The paper that is the most
aimed will be square shaped. For basic models printer paper or
just plain notebook paper will do. The more complex models then
use brightly colored one or double sided and comes with a label
that reads “origami”.
