CE Marking

CE mark is the abbreviation of "Conformité Européene" which literally means "European

Conformity".

CE marking is a declaration by the equipment manufacturer that the product meets all the
appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives.

Rotating machinery may need to meet the requirements of some or all of the following
European Directives:

• Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 73/23/EEC, 2006/95/EC

• Construction Products Directive (CPD) 89/106/EEC

• Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) 89/336/EEC, 2004/108/EC

• There are two ATEX Directives, one for the manufacturer and one for the user,
relating to what equipment and work is allowed in an environment with an explosive
atmosphere.

o ATEX 95 Equipment Directive 94/9/EC Mandatory July 2003

o ATEX 137 Workplace Directive 99/92/EC Mandatory July 2006

• Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, 2006/42/EC

AEMT INTERNATIONAL Ex REGISTER, 2011

Register of AEMT members able to repair Hazardous Area Equipment to the relevant
Ex certificate and/or standards.

The following companies are full members of the AEMT who have at least two
employees who have attended the AEMT courses on the repair of Hazardous Area Ex
equipment. These technicians have been successfully assessed and awarded a
certificate by the AEMT, which requires updating by a refresher course and re-
assessment every three years.

The listed companies hold an approved quality control system such as ISO 9001
incorporating all aspects of repairs to Hazardous Area Ex motors and other
apparatus, ensuring that work is carried out to the latest BS EN IEC 60079-19 repair
standard. All equipment used for the repairs is properly calibrated, and the data
concerning each repair is recorded and a report issued.

The IEC 60079-19 international repair standard was derived from an earlier Code of
Practice published by the AEMT and BEAMA in consultation with the Health and
Safety Executive.

Each registered company must have a competent person appointed within the
management of the organisation, with a working knowledge of the concepts and
standards applying to the repair of Hazardous Area Apparatus, and responsible for
ensuring that the repaired equipment remains safe and conforms to the original
standard, and/or certificate.

The listed compamies are able to service and/or repair certified Ex equipment, such
as motors, pumps, fans, generators, transformers, etc. manufactured to the following
protection concepts:

Flameproof: Ex d, Ex de,
Increased Safety: Ex e,
Non Sparking: Ex n, Ex na, Ex N,
Dust: Ex tD, pD

and other Ex standards for hazardous area apparatus.

Where possible the apparatus will be repaired to the original Ex certificate. If the
certificate is not available, the apparatus will be repaired to the Ex protection standard
applicable at the date of certification. This ensures that the requirements of IEC BS
EN 60079-19 are met, and also meets the responsibilities under the ATEX Directives in
the EU.
