STANDBY GENERATOR (1000 KVA)

1. 0 The Scope

Supply, installation, test and commission of 1000 kVA standby electric generating system,
including all devices and equipment specified herein. Equipment Shall be new, (USED !!)
factory tested, and delivered ready for installation. All to be durable with below site
conditions:-

● System voltage of 415 Volts AC, three phase, Four-wire, 50 hertz .: Comply
● Altitude 50 meters, ambient temperatures up to 50 Deg C.: Comply

2.0 Submittals:

Within 28 days after award of contract, provide two sets of the following information

1. Manufacturer’s product literature and performance data, sufficient to verify


compliance to specification requirements. OK (load test)
2. Manufacturer's published warranty documents. (Used No warranty)
3. Shop drawings showing plan and elevation views with certified overall dimensions,
as well as wiring interconnection details. OK
4. Interconnection wiring diagrams showing all external connections required; with
field wiring terminals marked in a consistent point-to-point manner. OK
5. Warranty for all products against defects in materials and workmanship for a 3 at
least years of Standby application. (Used No warranty)

3.0 Reference Standards

This generator Shall be designed to comply with ISO8528 standards regulation–

● ISO8528 Generators & ISO 3046 for Engines. (usually does)

● Alternators Shall meet the requirements of BS EN 60034 and the relevant sections
of other national and international standards such as BS5000, VDE 0530, NEMA
MG1-32, IEC60034, CSA C22.2-100, AS1359. (comply)
● Torsional Vibration capability Shall be as per NFPA 110 Standards. (to check with
manufacturers)
● The Generator Shall meet the NFPA110 requirements for Level Emergency Power
Supply Startup time of 10 seconds and the 100% block loading capability as per
NFPA110, Type 10 System requirements (I doubt for it’s a used unit).
● This generator set Shall be designed in facilities certified to ISO9001 and
manufactured in facilities certified to ISO9001 or ISO9002. (Comply).

4.0 Manuals

Operator’s manuals Shall be provided for all system equipment. The manuals Shall include
outline, interconnection, wiring, and control drawings accurately describing the equipment
provided. (Comply)

5.0 Performance:

● Voltage regulation Shall be plus or minus 0.5 percent for any constant load
between no load and rated load. Random voltage variation with any steady load
from no load to full load Shall not exceed plus or minus 0.5 percent.: Comply

● Frequency regulation Shall be isochronous from steady state no load to steady


state rated load. Random frequency variation with any steady load from no load to
full load Shall not exceed plus or minus 0.25%.: Comply

An electronic governor system Shall provide automatic isochronous frequency


regulation.: Comply

Engine mounted battery charging alternator and solid-state voltage regulator.: Comply

6.0 AC Generator:

The AC generator Shall be synchronous, four pole, 2/3 pitch, revolving field, drip-proof
construction, single pre-lubricated sealed bearing, air cooled by a direct drive centrifugal
blower fan, and directly connected to the engine with flexible drive disc.: Comply

Al insulation system components Shall meet NEMA MG1 temperature limits for Class H
insulation system. Actual temperature rise measured by resistance method at full load Shall
not exceed 150 degrees Centigrade.: Comply

The generator Shall be capable of delivering rated output (kVA) at rated frequency and
power factor, at any voltage not more than 5 percent above or below rated voltage.:
Comply

A permanent magnet generator (PMG) Shall be included to provide a reliable source of


excitation power for optimum motor starting and short circuit performance. The PMG and
controls Shall be capable of sustaining and regulating current supplied to a single phase or
three phase faults at approximately 300% of rated current for not more than 10 seconds,
further the load acceptance transient Shall be of the highest levels as compared to the other
available excitation system. Note auxiliary winding excitation or auxiliary winding with
permanent magnet insert excitation will not be acceptable supplier Shall provide a
Permanent Magnet Generator as part of excitation system requirements. (PMG comply)

7.0 Engine-Generator Set Control: (Comply)

The generator set Shall be provided with a microprocessor-based control system, which is
designed to provide automatic starting, monitoring, and control functions for the generator
set. The control system Shall also be designed to all ow local monitoring and control of the
generator set, and remote monitoring and control as described in this specification.

The control Shall be mounted on the generator set. The control Shall be vibration isolated
and prototype tested to verify the durability of all components in the system under the
vibration conditions encountered.

The control Shall be UL508 listed, CSA282-M1989 certified, and meet IEC8528 part

Al switches, lamps and meters Shall be oil-tight and dust-tight, and the enclosure door Shall
be gasketed. There Shall be no exposed points in the control (with the door open) that
operate in excess of 50 volts. The controls Shall meet or exceed the requirements of Mil-Std
461C part 9, and IEC STD 801.2, 801.3., and 801.5 for susceptibility, conducted, and
radiated electromagnetic emissions. The entire control Shall be tested and meet the
requirements of IEEE587 for voltage surge resistance.

An operator interface panel that all owes for complete genset control as well as system
metering, fault annunciation, configuration and diagnostics. The interface includes five
genset status LED lamps with both international y accepted symbols and English text to
comply with customer needs.

The interface Shall also include an LED backlit LCD display with tactile feel soft-switches
for easy operation and screen navigation. It should be configurable for units of
measurement and should have provisions to adjust screen contrast and brightness.

The Gensets Controller Shall be designed based on UL, NFPA, ISO, IEC, Mil Std. and CE
standards.
8.0 Generator Set Alarm and Status Message Display: (comply)

The generator set Shall be provided with alarm and status indicating lamps to indicate non-
automatic generator status, and existing alarm and shutdown conditions.

1. Low oil pressure (alarm) low oil pressure (shutdown): Comply


2. Oil pressure sender failure (alarm): Comply
3. Low coolant temperature (alarm): Comply

4. High coolant temperature (alarm): Comply

9.0 Engine Status Monitoring:

The following information Shall be available from a digital status panel on the generator set
control:

1. Engine oil pressure (psi or kPA) : Comply


2. Engine coolant temperature (degrees F or C) Both left and right bank temperature
Shall be indicated on V-block engines.: Comply
3. Engine oil temperature (degrees F or C): Comply
4. Engine speed (rpm): Comply
5. Exhaust temperature (optional): no
6. Number of hours of operation (hours): Comply
7. Number of starts attempts: Comply
8. Battery voltage (DC volts): Comply

The control system Shall also incorporate a data logging and display provision to allow
logging of the last 10 warning or shutdown indications on the generator set, as well as total
time of operation at various loads, as a percent of the standby rating of the generator set.:

10.0 Certifications (need to confirm with manufacturers, but most will


comply)

The Genset control Shall meets requirements of the following codes and standards: -

- NFPA 110 for level 1 and 2 systems.

- ISO 8528-4: 1993 compliance, controls and switchgear.

- CE marking: The control system is suitable for use on generator sets to be CE-marked.

- EN 50081-1,2 residential/light industrial emissions or industrial emissions.

- EN 50082-1,2 residential/light industrial or industrial susceptibility.

- ISO 7637-2, level 2; DC supply surge voltage test.


- Mil Std 202C, Method 101 and ASTM B117: Salt fog test.

- The Genset control systems and generator sets Shall be designed and manufactured in ISO
9001 certified - CSA C282-M1999 compliance.

- CSA 22.2 No. 14 M91 industrial controls.

11.0 Generator Set Auxiliary Equipment and Accessories:

11.1 Water Jacket Heater (not included in our units)

Engine mounted thermostatically controlled, water jacket heater for each engine. The
heater(s) Shall be sized as recommended by the engine manufacturer. Heater voltage Shall
be as shown on the project drawings.

11.2 Starting and Control Batteries: Comply

Starting battery bank, heavy-duty lead acid type, 24-volt DC, sized as recommended by the
generator set manufacturer, shall be supplied for each generator set with battery cables
and connectors.

11.3 Exhaust Silencer & Flexibles: Comply

Exhaust silencer & flexibles Shall be provided for each engine, size and type as
recommended by the generator set manufacturer. The silencers Shall be designed to match
the overall level of attenuation specified elsewhere. The exhaust system Shall be installed
according to the generator set manufacturers recommendations and applicable codes and
standards.

11.4 Battery Charger: (need to purchase and add)

A 10-amp voltage regulated battery charger Shall be provided for the Engine-generator set.
The charger Shall be wall mounted type. Input AC voltage and DC output voltage Shall be as
required. Chargers Shall be equipped with both Analogue & Digital Display for DC amps &
Voltage.

Charger Shall have Intelligent two, three and four stage charging profiles -

• Configurable to suit 12V and 24V applications

• Adjustable current limit (Max 10A)

• Can be used as a battery charger, power supply or both at the same time
• Automatic or manual boost and storage charge functions to help maintain battery
condition

• Digital microprocessor technology

• Temperature compensation for battery charging

• Low output ripple and superb line regulation

• Three LEDs indication

• Optional battery temperature compensation using PT1000 temperature sensor with over
temperature protection

11.5 Automatic Boost Mode

• Boosts and equalizes cell charge improving battery performance and life Power Save
Mode

• Once the battery is fully charged the chargers switch to Eco power to save energy.

11.6 Fuel Storage Day Tank (5500 Liter required for one day)

Provide a single wall day fuel storage tank with capacity for eight hours operation at 100%
load. The tank Shall be constructed of corrosion resistant steel and Shall be complete with:

 Filler neck and cap

 Fuel level gauge

 Drain point (plugged)

 Flexible fuel supply and return pipes to the diesel engine

 Connection for bulk fuel supply

 High- and low-level alarm switch (need to add).

 Level switch to control the operation (not clear what operation but need to
add).
12. 0 Earthing.: Comply

The supplier Shall supply and install the complete earthing system including an earthing
tape, bars etc. associated with the diesel generator installation.

13.0 Factory Tests: (used generator, only to be load tested at yard)

Prior to delivery to site the equipment supplied Shall be fully tested at the factory for
function and performance in the presence of consultant and client representatives.

Factory test certificates to be submitted to the client & consulting engineer.

Generator set to be tested at vendor’s/Manufacturers works. Test Shall be performed at


rated load and 0.8 PF.

Tests Shall include run at full load for minimum of 3 hours at 0.8 PF. (doubt for used
machine in summer) The test should also include maximum power, voltage
regulation, and simulations of functions & safety shutdowns. The fuel & other pre-
requisites for testing Shall be part of the genset supplier’s scope. The

Transients as per ISO8528-G2 and 100% block testing of the genset as per

NFPA110 Shall be carried out during the genset testing. (doubt for used machine) Al
values to be recorded and verified as per the ISO standards. Further all functions of safety
shutdowns as applicable Shall be demonstrated.

14.0 On-Site Acceptance Test: Comply

The complete installation Shall be tested for compliance with the specification following
completion of al site work.

Testing Shall be conducted by representatives of the manufacturer, with required fuel


supplied by Client. The Engineer Shall be notified in advance and Shall have the option to
witness the tests. Install action acceptance tests to be conducted on-site Shall include a
"cold start" test, a two-hour load test on actual load.
