ASIAN PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE
COMPETITION

1. The 1st Asian Parliamentary Debate Competition will require knowledge, analysis and
application of speaking/debating skills by the contenders to the various current legal
issues in the Philippines and abroad.

2. Three (3) individuals will constitute one (1) debate team. At most two (2) debate teams
per batch will be allowed to compete.

3. Participants are required to dress professionally while participating in the debate proper.

CONTEST RULES AND MECHANICS

4. The Competition will be divided into two rounds, namely: the Elimination Round and the
Final Round. The Orientation and Elimination Round will take place on September 20,
2022 at 2 pm while the Final Round shall be pursued on September 21, 2022 at 2 pm.

5. Contestants are advised to be at the designated place fifteen (15) minutes before the
scheduled time of the competition.

6. Participants will sit by team. The teams will be oriented first by the debate club as to the
Asian parliamentary format of the competition and the manner this competition will be
conducted. Participating law students are deemed automatic members of the debate
club in the College of Law.

7. After the short orientation, elimination round takes place. There are two competing
debate teams per round. As to who will be their opponent shall be drawn by lot. The
elimination round will take place simultaneously.

8. The team who will win the elimination round will automatically advance to the final round.

9. Each speaker will only be given 7 minutes to speak. The format and flow will be
discussed during the orientation.

10. There will be adjudicators composed by the debate club and participating faculty
member to judge the winner per round

11. The judging criteria shall be as follows:

METHOD 30%

OVERALL IMPACT 10%

TOTAL 100%

12. Only the winning team per set will proceed to the Final Round. Ties will be resolved by
majority vote of the judges.

13. Only one (1) debate team will be declared winner in the contest. Top 5 best speakers will
be recognized. All decisions made by the judges are final.

1. SNACKS FOR THE PARTICIPANTS:

30 PAX @ 20.00 EACH/DAY FOR 2 DAYS = P 1,200.00

2 GALLOONS OF WATER ON THE DISPENSER = 100.00
