My Modern Day Jesus
Samaniego, Vincent Jerome B.
8 – St. Augustine 32
Chapter 1 – “The Golden Rule”
1
Jesus was passing by His hometown, Nazareth. When the children
saw Him, 2they ran to Him and said “Can you please tell us another
parable, Jesus? Please?!?!?!”. “Okay, okay, I’ll tell one, a good one,”
He said. 3“There was once a man who lived in Galilee. He had everything;
money, food, fame, just everything. One day, an old woman knocked on
his door, he opened it, and the woman said “Sir, can you please give
me at least 10 gold coins? I need it for my family.” The man shut the door
laughing, saying “She’s poor, I don’t like her.” 4Then the next day,
someone knocked on his door. He opened it, he saw nothing. The knocking
continues, he opened the door with anger and went outside, saying “It’s
not funny, guys!” Suddenly, a group of men came to his house with knives,
beated him like a punching bag, took everything he had and left him
with nothing but bruises. 5He walked barefooted and knocked on the door
next to him. The old woman, who he didn’t help before, answered his knock and
he begged for money. The old woman readily helped him despite having less.”
Chapter 2 – “accompany”
1
The story goes of a young man who found himself lost and walking
alone in the middle of the forest. 2Sadness and fear was consuming him.
There was no sign of happiness and hope near by. Totally convinced to complete
his travel, he persued his journey seeking a clear path. 3Then after a while,
somebody came along who was also seeking to regain the right path. 4At
about the same time, light appeared at the end of their direction. Joy and
confidence started setting in him. 5As they approach the brighter end, he
was more confident in seeking the right path. At last, both were victorious.
Reflection:
Since we only have one life and we are not certain of how long our existence,
it is wise to put into action the values highlighted in the previous two chapters.
The first chapter involved a man who was already comfortable in his life
and in the process made him selfish. When the opportunity for him to help, he
failed to practice it to the old woman. It was a painful realization for him
when the same old woman helped him despite what he did before. The second
chapter involved a man who appeared to be overwhelmed of being lost. This
may be true with our lives when we have so many problems or we are in a difficult
situation. But when we do not lose our faith in HIM, we are certain that
solutions will come our way. Again, when we do good to others and maintain
our faith, there is no mission impossible.
