2017 MARAWI SIEGE

It is the 2017 Marawi siege, I still remember this crucial attack., It's been the main page on newspapers,
radios and televisions. I still remember the Marawi song, 'Marawi, sabay sabay tayong babangon'
(Marawi, we will rise together). As I remember this awful event, I pray for the victims of this attack.

Fighters linked to the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) stormed the capital of Lanao del Sur, launching a
siege that lasted for five months. The bloody war between the Maute Group and forces President
Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in over all of Mindanao. Some 47 civilians were killed during the
war; over 1.700 were rescued; and more than 359,000 individuals or 72,000 families were uprooted.
War and conflict is a topic in which society has been shielded away the full knowledge in the occurrence
of many situations, and of these is the Marawi Siege. Beyond the numbers is the psychological toll of
war, the survivors described this as a deeply traumatic. He stressed the need for continuous
psychosocial debriefings and medical. Assistance for the survivors. I was deeply hurt and sorry as I read
his statement. The trauma the children experienced, they should be happily playing but they are playing
with danger. The trauma the women experienced, manipulated and raped. The trauma the men
experienced, every day they faced the danger keeping their eyes open as they wish to protect their
family. The horror of the people who had been killed. The effect of traumatic events on human
functioning has been a subject of study for many years.

In my opinion, maybe peace is really for the Disney movies only. Unity is for the Marvel movies only.
Good bond of government and people is for some places only. The anger of this group have been
resulted some big problem in a community. As they have said that they are mad at the government, why
is the innocent people are being punished? Some corrupt politician is safe and sound while innocent
people are being attacked. Discipline is really one of the best skills we should practice. Discipline in
action and words. At the same time, I really hate this Maute and ISIS group. As I heard that they once
practice children to hold gun. They thought them that the government and his people was the worst.
Without reflecting themselves. Are ISIS group still humans? Humanity is really one of the crucial point
now, how can you show humanity? Hatred ate them up and they are still not enough of this.

But in the other hand, Unity is felt in that crucial moment. Not in Marawi, but in some places
that help the town. After knowing their situation, I remember a huge number of people really
help. Media news really gave their best to document that war. Many of the people donated,
artists offered a song. Philippines fighting spirit is really shocking. Even some countries helped
us.

The number of months that spend in this war really emphasized the hardship our people experienced.
After the long war, Marawi lost their peaceful and beautiful place as it been racked, bombed and
destroy. Truly, the final battle was moving forward. Many donations help them but still it is not enough.
After years, people of Marawi are still moving forward.
The battle of Marawi still is not over. The trauma they have experienced pushed some residents to
discriminate some of the Muslims. The battle of the Christians and Muslims suddenly occurred. Unity is
blind. As I said, Equality still is the unfinished business of our century.

After a long run, we have heard some silence in Mindanao. But I believe the trauma they experienced
still big loud. Most experts agree that this crucial event it was used or a threat of violence. Marawi Siege
is intended to provoke collective fear and uncertainty. What I found particularly striking was how people
would come back to stories of siege, a man-made disaster, while talking about floods, a natural disaster.
It seems to me that all narratives now flow from the siege, and what becomes of the future emanates
from it. The siege is etched into the collective memories of locals like inedible pockmarks from a bullets
on ground zero's remaining walls.
