The song “ Awit sa Marawi” sung by Esang de Torres
shows the unity of the Filipino people in the Islamic city of Marawi to rise up to the tragic siege of the city. One of the most unforgettable scars in this nation’s written history is the war that broke out in Marawi. Marawi is a peaceful and normal Islamic city, But it might take to rehabilitate the city with the use of bombs, guns, and even tanks that cause wrecking some establishments, houses, and even businesses of the people of the city. Amidst the denouement of the Marawi siege after almost a year of exchanging guns and dropping bombs, it also brought fear, anxiety, and grief to the affected people, and raised interrogations about their safety and general welfare. In this year 2020 to 2022, the city is gradually rising and for now the city get back to normal, though it has some traces of the tragedies that occurred in that area, but in the heart of the people of the Maranaos is the hope that prevails and go for the light of hope that flows in their blood and continue to rise and fight back to their fear and darkest memory. The battle of Marawi, also known as the siege of marawi and the marawi crisis, was a five month long armed conflict in marawi, lanao, del sur, Philippines that started last May 22, 2017. The bloody war between the Maute group and government forces protected by President Rodrigo Duterte to declare Martial law over all of Mindanao society. What came to be known as the marawi crisis ended in destruction of homes and lives, as well as the displacement of hundreds of thousand people. The knowledge about this was ended when good enemy fighters were killed, but so were 168 government forces. The song of Esang De Torres dedicated to the people of Marawi. This song calls for peace, love and unity to bring back marawi on its feet. From the first sentence of the song, “hindi bala, hindi bomba, sa marawi ang sagot.” Means that there is no need to use violent techniques for us to have a peaceful life. Recklessness is not always an answer or never an answer to have a peaceful and organized community. Thus, it makes it worsening and it can affect the life of others that have their own dreams and don’t deserve to be involved in this kind of siege. same blood but the terrorist prevails their anger and don’t have a humanity and look forward to their will. Innocence people are involved in that situation and affect their mental health because of fear that they encounter and what their lives will be the next day or what if their life goes to death. In the second paragraph “ Marawi sabay-sabay nating ibabangon, Buong pagmamahal tayo'y aahon, Marawi darating din ang isang dapit-hapon, Sisikat ang araw sa isang bagong ngayon..” showing the love, unity, and sympathy of the filipino people. It's heartwarming to see the people around me who are ready to help our Kababayans from Mindanao who really much needed in the day of the crisis. It’s clearly to see that in this generation, still there is a people in this world that who are ready to help to the people who are involved this tragic happened in marawi, no matter it has a danger in their lives to go to the city in that area to rescue or to help them from danger, like our great heroes (military/soldiers) who are willing to risk their lives for the sake not only for the city, but also for our country. Also to the people who are sending love and comfort to the maranaos who are suffering from fear and stocked in darkness. Because I believe in saying that “ Individually we each one color, together we make a rainbow.” In the third paragraph “Kristyano at Muslim hindi ba't iisa?, Nilalang tayo ni Allah na iisang Ama, Kung bubuksan ang puso ng bawat isa, Sa mundo ang maghahari ay ngiti't saya...” in this paragraph explained that there’s only one god but people have different beliefs. Yes we have different beliefs and practices but in our heart we are bound us one, God bound us to make our world better and makes our life happy even in hard times. Because God gives us a challenge to what will be do if this kind of situation happens to our lives. it teaches us to have a humanity in our society. What we wish to REMEMBER now is that we have to rebuild what was destroyed not only externally but also internally, to help people to move from that bad experience and lesson to a more positive understanding why this happened in our midst and to find appropriate solutions to continue to move together for the common good. We are living in a society where fear is still deep no matter how we cover it with many signs of progress and promises. We can say that there is a kind of “trauma” in our society and we have to face it with courage, not to cover it. We need to be realistic and accept that many decisions and tensions are fruits of fear. Thus, many decisions are not balanced in all levels of society, including our personal decisions. Fear is not rational and can create a chain of violence if we are not able to stop it. Looking for the bright side, we must see the life of others and teach ourselves what if I’m in that situation? What if I experienced that kind of tragic? It is sad to know that there are some people lost part of their family and it is hard to think that some of them have many dreams has been restrained because of the war. As a student that is the only weapon that can be used is the words with a silver lining And to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a student. We will rise up together, nothing will left behind, we all walk together to the light of hope and we can have an amazing world where negativity cannot grow and prosper, and the people will have smiles on their faces. Again, “we are different but we are one” we will make all things happen because we have only one god but in different beliefs that are guiding us to make our place better living.
