HIP-HOP DANCE STYLES

1.) Break-dancing – It is one of the very original styles of Hip-hop. It is characterized by acrobatic Vigor
movements, upright movements, and footwork. Dancers would also punctuate their routines with a
movement known as freeze. The basic types of moves in Breakdancing are:
 The Top-rock
 The Footwork
 The Drops
 The Floor-rock
 The Power-moves

2.) Liquid Dance – As the title implies, Liquid dance is a fluid and delicate dance with a center on the
arms and palms. It may also include some forms of pantomime and exceptional dancers will use a range
of body moves.

3.) Boogaloo – Another fluid-like type of dance, Boogaloo as directed by Hip-hop dance studios, uses the
complete body sliding smoothly like butter, often with rolling of the hips, head and knees.

4.) Reggae – A dance style that invokes sensuality, because of its Latin influences that are mixed with
more modern Hip hop moves set to the modern evolution of reggae music.

5.) Stepping - Also a type of Group dance, that include using different body actions to create percussive
beats. This is accomplished through.
 Stomping or steps
 Clapping or Slapping
 Spoken Word
6.) Up rock – This style uses a blend of many dance moves to build soulful dances. Typically, this dance
style includes these kinds of steps.
 Shuffles
 Spins
 Freestyle Movements
 Jerks
 Hand gestures
7.) Funk – Funk dance style uses a blend of fluid and sharp moves and is usually have a very articulated
or extremely choreographed, Locking and popping are also frequently combined into this dance.

8.) Locking and popping – This are technically two types of styles, Locking and popping usually go
hand in hand. Locking requires fast actions, sharp pauses, and extravagant gestures. While popping on
the other hand, is a bouncy type of style that demands extreme use of counter-tempo.
