Collins Learning’s Resources Adhere to the Principles of NEP 2020
The National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020 envisions universal access to education, from the
Foundational to the Secondary Stages of schooling.
The new pedagogical and academic structure includes four stages (of 5+3+3+4 years)
corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years respectively:
• Foundational Stage – 3 years of Pre-school plus Grades 1 and 2
• Preparatory Stage – Grades 3 to 5
• Middle Stage – Grades 6 to 8
• Secondary Stage – Grades 9 to 12
Collins Learning’s resources are aligned with the principles and the vision of the NEP. Our books
focus on:
• Achieving the desired learning outcomes at all levels
• Recognizing the primacy of formative years (ages 3-8), which includes building foundational
literacy and numeracy
• Integrating 21st century skills in learning, teaching and assessments
• Providing affordable digital aids as teaching-learning tools to bridge the digital divide and
ensure that no child is left behind (in the use of technology to aid learning), thus using
technology extensively to deliver education
• Providing opportunities for continuous review of progress based on regular assessment
• Conceptual understanding rather than furthering rote learning and learning-for-exams
• Fostering inquiry-based, discovery-based, discussion-based, and analysis-based learning
• Imparting holistic education through a flexible, multidisciplinary approach covering the
sciences, social sciences, humanities, fine arts and sports for a multidisciplinary world in order
to ensure the unity and integrity of all knowledge
• Promoting peer tutoring through a variety of hands-on, supervised activities for more
effective learning and skill building
• Nurturing and developing life skills such as communication, cooperation, teamwork and
resilience
• Honing creativity and critical thinking to encourage logical decision-making and innovation
• Encouraging respect for diversity and local context in all curriculum and pedagogy
• Creating awareness in children about Sustainable Development Goals 2030, and preparing
them to contribute towards attaining these
Collins School Catalogue 2021–22
Educational systems across the world struggle to ensure that education is seamlessly imparted to the learners. According
to a UNESCO report, the global student population of over 1.5 billion learners in 165 countries are affected by the school
closures due to the ongoing pandemic. Educators are called upon to improve the content competency by providing
content which takes care of curricular development and innovation. At this juncture, Collins Learning aims to strengthen
the schools and teachers and to sufficiently prepare students with easily accessible learning materials.
We are proud to share our latest school catalogue which showcases some of the most innovative and all-encompassing
portfolio in school publishing. We have published books for the learners from the Foundational Stages to Secondary Stage
of class 10. Our books contain specifically commissioned contributions from key educationists in their chosen field and are
essential for any inclusive and holistic learning. Kasturi Rangan committee’s proposal of universalizing education has found
resonance in the National Education Policy (NEP) which was launched in 2020; it envisions universal access to education
from the foundational to secondary stages of schooling. The much-awaited NCF is expected to further consolidate the
pre-eminence of education in the truest form— education with a holistic perspective is concerned with the development
of every person’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials. We have attempted to
ensure that our books help in the holistic development of a student through interesting questions, projects and activities
which fosters experiential learning, thereby leading to innovative thinking and creativity. The overall approach of Collins
books has been to help create a learning environment that enhances students’ learning and to apply that knowledge to
solve problems. In keeping with the spirit of Structured Assessment For Analyzing Learning (SAFAL),the assessments and
test papers in Collins books support at-home learning for children to shift away from rote memorization and shift to
skill-based and competency-based education.
Collins Learning books set out to focus on recognizing the primacy of formative years which includes taking care of
foundational literacy and numeracy. From Nursery (Foundational Stage 1) to Class 2 (Foundational Stage 5), the series
Cherry Blossoms supports holistic learning and skill development through a variety of activities included in the separate
coursebooks and workbooks for English, Mathematics and General Awareness as well as Art and Craft books. Cherry
Blossoms books are aligned with the requirements as envisioned in the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with
Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN).
Enhanced English Alive (FS 1 to Class 8) is a multi-skill course in English that retains the original essence of teaching
communicative English using a cross-curricular approach. The aim is to motivate learners to read independently,
to improve their vocabulary, to develop their critical and creative thinking skills, and enhance their ability to express
themselves both verbally and in writing. Research-based activities and projects have been used to instill inquiry-based
learning, while comprehension passages have been followed by extrapolative and value-based questions that involve
analysis-based learning.
Revised Engaging English aims to instill an appreciation for literature in today’s learners, while equipping them with the
tools to develop native fluency and communicative competence in using the English language. The revised edition is
aligned closely with the NEP through its focus on twenty-first century skills, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), cross-
curricular learning, ‘Happiness’ content and art-integrated learning.
Bumblebee is an innovative course on Environmental Studies that adopts a multidisciplinary approach to ensure holistic
learning for young learners. Cascade, a course in Social Studies, brings to fore effective and updated educational content
to promote creative and critical thinking. Junior Atlas offers child-friendly maps, photographs, and activities for skills-
building.
Two new series, Perfect Maths (FS 1 to Class 8) and Collins Incredible Series (1 to 8), are based on the 5E Learning
Model, beautifully integrating NEP elements (Experiential Learning, Art Integration, Cross-Curricular, India Focus and 21st
Century Skills) and Sustainable Development Goals to make mathematics and science engaging for students through
emphasizing connections with day-to-day experiences. Perfect Maths (FS 1 to 3), while aiming to help a child be “Happy
to Learn” is based on Numeracy Skills, 21st Century Skills and Multiple Intelligence. Collins Incredible Earth 1 and 2 have
been designed considering the multidisciplinary nature of Environmental Studies. Collins Incredible Science 3 to 8 focus
on developing scientific skills and their application in real life, with activities promoting creative and critical thinking Both
Perfect Maths and Collins Incredible series attempt to create an interdisciplinary learning experience –learning by doing,
learning through projects, and learning by using knowledge through solving problems and explaining the knowledge.
The Teachers’ Books accompanying each of our coursebooks provide a detailed introduction to the teaching method
and offers a set of structured daily lesson plans which correspond to the daily activities provided in the coursebooks. In
tune with the role of digital technology in the future of education, we now have a digital platform named Collins Infinity
which is a blended learning solution for classes 1 to 8, catering to the evolving teaching and learning needs. We continue
to engage in collaborative partnerships and custom publishing. We are committed to nurture a generation of leaders. We
hope that our books will foster good learning practices in young learners.

With best wishes,

Sheeba Mathew John

Learning and Development During the Early Years

The early years are the most significant years for growth, development and learning. During this
period, children need adequate opportunities for stimulating experiences as these favourably affect
various learning abilities. Learning experiences, when chosen and planned properly, fuel the innate
curiosity of children, and stimulate their thought processes.
The goal of learning during the early years is to enhance the all-round development of personality
and to inculcate healthy attitudes, life skills and good values. Creative play, well thought-out
games and developmentally appropriate activities help children develop the necessary skills to
achieve these goals. The skills that children need to acquire can broadly be categorized as:

Collins
Perfect Science
Assessments
Collins Perfect Science Assessments is a comprehensive science self-assessment series
for classes 6 to 10, for schools across all boards. This series adheres to the guidelines of
the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in which self-assessment is stated as one of the
tools for transforming the culture of assessment. This series follows a holistic approach
and promotes active engagement with learning. It aims to make the students move
away from rote learning; and hence, elevate the status of the student from a passive
learner to an active learner and facilitate learner autonomy, higher cognitive abilities
and metacognitive engagement. A smooth transition of questions from easy, average
to difficult would enable better understanding of concepts, self-analysis and hence
excellence in any competitive exam.
The workbooks can also be used by teachers for review and assessments in an academic
year, if they want to, as each assessment paper has a variety of questions.

Perfect Maths
Assessments
Collins Perfect Maths Assessments is a comprehensive maths self-
assessment series for classes 6 to 10, for schools across all boards. This series
adheres to the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in
which self-assessment is stated as one of the tools for transforming the
culture of assessment. This series follows a holistic approach and promotes
active engagement with learning. It aims to make the students move away
from rote learning; and hence, elevate the status of the student from a
passive learner to an active learner and facilitate learner autonomy, higher
cognitive abilities and metacognitive engagement. A smooth transition of
questions from easy, average to difficult would enable better understanding
NEW
of concepts, self-analysis and hence excellence in any competitive exam.
The workbooks can also be used by teachers for review and assessments in
an academic year, if they want to, as each assessment paper has a variety of
questions.
