Preparation for the

Winning Strategy

I. Letting God Cry

Through Us
In Ezekiel 37, the prophet
Ezekiel was led by God to a
graveyard of dry bones.
And the Lord asked an
interesting question, “Can
these bones live?”

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

Perhaps this is a question

that some of us may ask
doubtingly within our
hearts as we enter into a
month of praying the 3x3
prayer strategy for our lost
loved ones and friends.
Ezekiel, not knowing how
to respond, simply said,
“Oh, Lord God, you know”

(Ezekiel 37:3). God’s

response was to have
Ezekiel prophesy to the dry
bones and later to have the

wind of the spirit breathe

life into the bones, causing
them to live again.
We find at times our faith
wavering and in moments
difficult to believe,
summon faith to believe
that these dry bones can
live. Ask God to fill you
with His passion to save.
Identify with the aching
heart of God to save the
lost, to bring salvation to
our loved ones, one by one,
family by family. Believe

that God will use you to say

to them, “Dry bones, hear
the word of the Lord.”
Ezekiel 37:4b. Over the
next few weeks, we are
going to cry out the word of
the Lord back to Him for
those who are not only
spiritually dead but even
buried for so long that they
are just dry bones.
We need to be so convinced
that God will save the
person we love, the one
whom we pray, that we
win • consolidate • disciple • send

K

would be shocked if they

didn’t get saved. We need
to believe God that is so
passionately in love with
people that when we cry for
those we love, we realize
that we’re actually helping
Him cry.

“The Sovereign LORD has

given me a well-instructed
tongue, to know the word
that sustains the weary. He
wakens me morning by

instructed” (Isaiah 50:4).

II. Why Is Persevering

Faith So Important?

First, if we don’t really

believe God will answer
our prayers, we will not
pray with any kind of
consistency and diligence.
We may sporadically ask
Him, but we certainly will

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

not persevere. We must

have motivational faith that
truly believe He is hearing
us and He will answer.
Second, is that our faith
really releases God’s
power.
There is a striking story in
Mark 6:1-6 about Christ not
working any miracles in
His hometown of Nazareth.
A careful reading and study
of the verses in the original
Greek text reveals that

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

Jesus didn’t simply choose

not to work miracles, but
He actually could not work
miracles in Nazareth
because of the unbelief of
the people.
There is really a dynamic of
faith wherein unbelief can
hinder God’s power from
flowing to us.
We are instructed in:

James 1:6-7 - “But when he

asks, he must believe and

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

not doubt, because he who

doubts is like a wave of the
sea, blown and tossed by
the wind. [7] That man
should not think he will
receive anything from the
Lord.”
Unbelief can cause us not
to receive what we have
asked for, even though it
may be within the scope of
God’s will.

Galatians 6:9 “Let us not

become weary in doing
good, for at the proper time
we will reap a harvest if we
do not give up.”
Again, if we are not able to
persevere, which certainly
has to do with our faith,
then there will be times
when we will not reap what
we have asked. Jesus said,

Mark 9:23 (NKJV) “Jesus

said to him, ‘If you can

believe, all things are

possible to him who
believes.”
It is imperative to ask in
faith when we pray for the
salvation of the people we
love. Do not start feeling
intimidated, questioning
whether you have, or could
ever have, enough faith to
pray your loved ones of
friend into the family of
God. Don’t allow Satan to
defeat you before you ever
get started. You are of the

family of faith. The Holy

Spirit, the author of faith, is
in you and you can and will
be able to believe. Deep
within your spirit it is your
nature to walk in faith.

III. God Can Turn Our

Weakness Into Strength
One of our favorite stories
in the Bible is that of
Abraham and Sarah
believing God’s promise
for a son.

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

What most people didn’t

realize, however, is that
they didn’t always walk in
faith during the 25 years
they waited for Isaac. They
wavered in their faith for
receiving a son through
Sarah so much so that they
conceived a plan to try to
fulfill the promises through
Hagar, Sarah’s maid.
Ishmael was the result.

Interestingly, in a seeming
contradiction, the New
Testament states very
clearly that it was because
of Abraham and Sarah’s
great faith that God was
able to fulfill the promise.

Romans 4:17-22 - “As it is

written: ‘I have made you a
father of many nations’.
He is our father in the sight
of God, in whom he
believed--the God who

gives life to the dead and

calls things that are not as
though they were. [18]
Against all hope, Abraham
in hope believed and so
became the father of many
nations, just as it had been
said to him, ‘So shall your
offspring be.’ [19] Without
weakening in his faith, he
faced the fact that his body
was as good as dead-since
he was about a hundred
years old--and that Sarah’s
womb was also dead. [20]

Yet he did not waver

through unbelief regarding
the promise of God, but
was strengthened in his
faith and gave glory to
God, [21] being fully
persuaded that God had
power to do what he had
promised. [22] This is why
‘it was credited to him as
righteousness’.”

Hebrews 11:11-12 - “By

faith Abraham, even though

he was past age--and Sarah

herself was barren-was
enabled to become a father
because he considered him
faithful who had made the
promise. [12] And so from
this one man, and he as
good as dead, came
descendants as numerous
as the stars in the sky and
as countless as the sand on
the seashore.”
Does the New Testament
contradict the Old
Testament? Absolutely not.

Romans 4:20 tells us that

they” grew strong in faith”.
And here is the incredibly
good news: They grew into
this incredibly strong faith
in three short months, at
which time Isaac was
conceived. Twenty-three
years of unbelief was
overcame in three months!
From the point of unbelief
until Isaac’s conception
three months later,
something transpired to
transform them from

unbelief to the great faith

spoken of in the New
Testament.
If God could do this for
them, He can do it for you!
Abraham and Sarah were
not even born again as you
are. They didn’t have the
Holy Spirit aiding within
them. Surely, we who live
on this side of the Cross,
with a “better covenant”
and “better promises”.

Hebrews 8:6 - “But the

ministry Jesus has received
is as superior to theirs as
the covenant of which he is

We can rise to a level of
faith as quickly, or even
more so. Don’t
underestimate the Christ in
you.

“Let the weak say, I am

And see the unbelievers
around you not as threats
but as opportunities. They
really can live, and you can
really believe it.

Our faith can grow to a
point where we become
assured of seeing God’s
salvation come to those
whom we pray. There are
some principles of faith that

K

are essential for us to

understand.

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Faith
I. Faith is of the heart
It is not of the mind - it is
not positive thinking.
It is possible to convince
ourselves of something
mentally and allow no
thoughts of doubts to enter
our minds without being
true biblical faith. Biblical
faith is of the heart, not the
mind.

Mark 11:23 - “I tell you the

truth, if anyone says to this
mountain, ‘Go, throw
yourself into the sea,’ and
does not doubt in his heart
but believes that what he
says will happen, it will be
done for him.”

Romans 10:10 -
“For it is with your heart
that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your
mouth that you confess and

are saved.”

II. Faith is the assurance

of what we ask
Hebrews 11:1 (NASB) -
“Now faith is the assurance
of things hoped for, the
conviction of things not
seen.”

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) -

“Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the

evidence of things not

seen.”
The word “assurance”
comes from the Greek word
upostasis. This was also the
Greek word for a title deed.
Biblical faith is knowing
with certainty deep in our
hearts that we have what
we ask God for, just as
surely as a title deed proves
that we own a piece of
property.

Prayer of Three

The KJV tells us that faith

is our evidence of things we
cannot see. “Evidence” is
from the Greek word
elegchos, which literally
means the proof of the
charges in a legal court case
that results in a conviction.
In other words, our faith in
God’s word or His
promises is all the
evidence we need to
validate our conviction.

IV. Faith Simply Needs to
Grow
Jesus teaches that we need
faith like a mustard seed
that starts out tiny but
grows into a tree.

Matthew 13:31-32
He told them another
parable: “The kingdom of
heaven is like a mustard
seed, which a man took and

planted in his field. [32]

Though it is the smallest of
all your seeds, yet when it
grows, it is the largest of
garden plants and becomes
a tree, so that the birds of
the air come and perch in
its branches.”

Matthew 17:20
“He replied, ‘Because you
have so little faith. I tell
you the truth, if you have
faith as small as a mustard

seed, you can say to this

mountain, ‘Move from here
to there’ and it will move.
Nothing will be impossible
for you’.”
Romans 12:3
teaches that each of us is
given “a measure of faith.”
The Greek word metron,
which is translated
“measure” means a limited
portion.

Romans 1:17

however, states that we go

from faith to faith. In other
words, our faith must grow.
Our faith can be like the
Thessalonians that is
greatly enlarged or be like
Abraham in

Romans 4:21 that started

with a measure of faith that
grew to full measure.

Praying through scriptures

like feeding and meditating
on it thus transforms God’s
Word from a seed to full
fruition. Our faith is
strengthened in the process.
In other words, if you need
faith for someone’s
salvation, feed on promises
relating to that subject.

Removing the Veil

The Bible tells us there is a
veil that keeps unbelievers
from clearly seeing the
gospel. The word “veiled”
is translated from the Greek
word kalupsis, which
means “to hide, cover up,
wrap around.” It is
important to realize that
unbelievers don’t see the
gospel because they can’t
see it. There is a veil, or
covering, over their minds
that prevents them from
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

clearly seeing the light and

truth of the gospel. We
have been given a part to
play in lifting this veil off
their minds.
Related to this concept of
the veil is the Greek word
for “revelation,” apokalusis.
This word is simply the
prefix apo, which means
“off or away,” added to the
word kalupsis. Literally,
then, a revelation is an
unveiling, or uncovering.
Until believers have an
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

unveiling a revelation they

won’t, indeed they can’t
understand the gospel
because the veil prevents
them from comprehending
it. Satan’s goal is to hide
the truth of the gospel in
order to keep unbelievers in
his grasp.
What gives place to this
veil? How does Satan, as 2
Corinthians 4:4 says, blind
the minds of the
unbelieving? The word
“blinded” in this verse
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

comes from the Greek word

tuphloo, which means “to
dull the intellect; to make
blind.” Satan has an ability
to dull the unbeliever’s
thinking where the gospel is
concerned. The root word
of tuphloo, tupho, has the
meaning of making smoke.
Therefore, the blindness in
this passage can be
compared to a smoke
screen that clouds or
darkens the air to the point

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

that a person cannot see

clearly.
From this same root comes
the word tuphoo that is
used for being high-
minded, proud or inflated
with self-conceit. The
picture is of one who is
“puffed up,” much like
smoke puffs up or billows.
The blindness of the
unbeliever to the gospel is
directly linked to the root of
pride that Satan passed on

win • consolidate • disciple • send

to humankind in the
Garden.
The root of pride that came
at the Fall causes
unbelievers to think
humanity’s knowledge is
greater than God’s. This
leads not to a knowledge
dependent on God but to an
independent knowledge that
looks to one’s own mind
and intellect as the judge of
truth. This inward quest for
knowledge glorifies one’s
own reasoning ability and
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

causes a rejection of God’s

knowledge. Because
everything is filtered
through this inward
knowledge, all of which is
inundated with pride, it
usually translates into the
exalting and serving of self
and its desires.
Understanding this blinding
ability of pride provides a
tremendous clue in how to
pray effectively for the lost.
We must attack the root of
pride! Most rejection of
win • consolidate • disciple • send

Christ, whether from the

works motivation of most
false religions or the simple
fact that most people don’t
want to give lordship of
their lives to another, is due
to the veil of pride. This
satanically initiated
stronghold is the ultimate
enemy of Christ and will be
dealt with in finality when
every knee bows and every
tongue confesses that Christ
is Lord. Pride will be dealt
its final blow!

How do we deal with the

vision-altering force of

Breaking Human Pride
However, if we would only

weapons that are “divinely

power, their salvation is
possible.

What are these weapons

we use in our warfare?
I. All forms of prayer.
Ephesians 6:18 mentions

prayer in the context of

III. The Word of God.

Ephesians 6:17: “And

Scriptures that apply to

great power against the
enemy. Jesus
demonstrated this when
He was confronted by
Satan in the wilderness
(see Matthew 4; Luke 4)

IV.The Name of Jesus.

Mark 16:17 states, “And
these signs will
accompany those who
have believed in My
name they will cast out
demons, they will speak
with new tongues.”
Though praying in the
name of Jesus is our
access to the Father, it is
also a powerful weapon
against demonic powers
and strongholds. Luke
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

10:17 tells us demons

were subject to the
disciples in Christ’s
name.
One of the things these
weapons will help produce
is enlightenment in the
unbeliever. The word
“light” in 2 Corinthians
4:4 is translated from the
Greek word photismos,
which means
“illumination.” It is related
to another word in
Ephesians 1:18,
win • consolidate • disciple • send
Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

“enlightened,” which is
translated from the word
photizo - “to let in light,”
and is similar in meaning
to revelation, or “lifting
the veil.”
And this is exactly what is
being communicated-in
photography language, as
it werein 2 Corinthians 4.
It makes no difference
how glorious our Jesus or
how wonderful our
message. If the veil
(shutter) is not removed to
win • consolidate • disciple • send

Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

let in the light, there will

be no true image (picture)
of Christ.
V.We must ask God to lift
the veil from
unbelievers’ spiritual
eyes. Ask Him for
enlightenment to come
to the one for whom
you are praying. Paul
prayed for the
Ephesians:
Ephesians 1:17-18 - “I
keep asking that the God

of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the glorious Father, may
give you the Spirit of
wisdom and revelation, so
that you may know him
better. [18] I pray also
that the eyes of your heart
may be enlightened in
order that you may know
the hope to which he has
called you, the riches of
his glorious inheritance in
the saints.”
If these Ephesians, already
born again, needed

revelation and
enlightenment to grow in
Christ, how much more
must it happen for the
unbeliever! Ask for it.

Revelation Backed with

the Fire Power of Prayer
Information versus
Revelation
We need to understand the
difference between
information and revelation.
Information is of the mind.

win • consolidate • disciple • send

Prayer of Three
Preparation for the Winning Strategy
K

However, biblical
revelation, which involves
and affects the mind,
originates from the heart.
Spiritual power is only
released through revelation
knowledge. The written
word (graphe) must become
the living word (logos).
Even as believers, we must
not just read but abide or
meditate in the Word,
praying as the psalmist:
“Open my eyes, that I may
behold wonderful things

from Thy law” (Psalm

119:18). The word “open,”
galah, also means “unveil
or uncover”- revelation.
Information can come
immediately, but revelation
is normally a process. As
the parable of the sower
demonstrates, all biblical
truth comes in seed form.

Spiritual information
seeds must grow into

fruit-producing
revelation.
We must ask God to bring
this revelation to the
unbeliever. The hearing of
the gospel isn’t enough;
prayer must accompany it.

1. Pray that the person’s

heart be prepared, so
that it will be “good
soil” for the seed

fell on good soil. It came

up, grew and produced a

crop, multiplying thirty,
sixty, or even a hundred
times.”

2. Pray that Satan not be

able to steal the seeds of
truth (see Mark 4:15),
and that nothing else
will be able to destroy
the seeds (see Mark
4:16-19).
Mark 4:15-19 - “Some
people are like seed along

the path, where the word is

sown. As soon as they
hear it, Satan comes and
takes away the word that
was sown in them. [16]
Others, like seed sown on
rocky places, hear the
word and at once receive it
with joy. [17J But, since
they have no root, they last
only a short time. When
trouble or persecution
comes because of the
word, they quickly fall
away. [18] Still others,

thorns, hear the word; [19]
but the worries of this life,
the deceitfulness of wealth
and the desires for other

the word, making it
unfruitful.”

3. Pray that the Word

becomes revelation
through the lifting of
the veil

4. Pray that the root of

pride in them be

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 -

world, we do not wage
war as the world does. [4]

with are not the weapons
of the world. On the
contrary, they have divine

strongholds. [5] We
demolish arguments and

Christ.”

5. Pray that the person

comes to true
repentance

2 Peter 3:9 - “The Lord is

not slow in keeping his
promise, as some
understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not
wanting anyone to perish,
but everyone to come to
repentance.”
2 Timothy 2:25-26 -
“Those who oppose him
he must gently instruct, in
the hope that God will
grant them repentance

[26] and that they will

come to their senses and
escape from the trap of the
devil, who has taken them
captive to do his will.”
Repentance does not mean
to “turn and go another
way.” That change of
direction is the result of
repentance, not repentance
itself.
Repentance - metanoia -
means to have “a new
knowledge or

understanding”- a change
of mind. In biblical
contexts, repentance is a
new understanding that
comes from God through
an unveiling (revelation)
and results in a new
direction or lifestyle. It is
necessary because of the
turning to our own
knowledge or
understanding at the fall.
Therefore, pray
continuously for divine
input of the Word of God

in the lives of our loved

ones that they may have
new understanding of
God and the gospel.

Assaulting Strongholds of
Mind and Heart
There is an absolute
connection between
spiritual warfare and
intercession, especially in
regards to praying for the
lost. Part of the veil that
blinds unbelievers is the

strongholds referred to in 2
Corinthians 10:4: “For the
weapons of our warfare are
not carnal, but mighty
through God to the pulling
down of strongholds”.
(KJV)
The word “stronghold” is
translated from the Greek
word ochuroma, coming
from the root word echo,
which means “to have or
hold.” This word for
“stronghold” (KJV) or
“fortress” (NASB) is

literally a place from which

to hold something strongly.
It is also the word for a fort,
a castle or a prison.
Strongholds are not
demons; they are places
from which demons rule.
In essence, Satan has a
place of strength within
unbelievers from which he
can imprison, or hold on to
them strongly. They are
prisoners, captives, slaves.
Christ was sent “to
proclaim release to the

captives” (Luke 4:18). We

participate in the
destruction of these
prisons” through spiritual
warfare.
The concept embodied in
the word “pulling down” or
as in (NASB) “destruction”
are translated from the
Greek word, kathairesis.
This important and
powerful word has a couple
of pertinent meanings. One
of them is “to bring down
with violence or demolish”

something. God’s plan is

for us to become demolition
agents, violently tearing
down Satan’s strongholds.

Unlike a detonated physical

building, we don’t usually
see the answer to our
intercession within
seconds-we may be
strategically placing the
dynamite of the Spirit for
days, weeks or months. But
every time we take up our

spiritual weapons and use

them against the
strongholds of the enemy,
we are placing our
explosive charges in
strategic places. And sooner
or later the Holy Detonator
of heaven is going to say
“Enough!” There will be a
mighty explosion in the
spirit, a stronghold will
crumble to the ground and
people will fall to their
knees.

God is going to show you

just how to pray so that you
can demolish every part of
Satan’s fortress. Verse 4
says our divinely
empowered weapons are
for the destruction or
demolition of strongholds,
and verse 5 elaborates more
fully on just what
comprises the strongholds
we’re going to demolish. In
other words, the Holy Spirit
breaks down for us exactly
what the stronghold or

prison is made of. This is

critical information as we
begin to war for the lost.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 -
“The weapons we fight
with are not the weapons
of the world. On the
contrary, they have divine
power to demolish
strongholds. [5] We

to make it obedient to

Breaking the Foundations

of Resistance
Specifically, He shares with
us three major components
of the fortress or prison.
These are the things we will
begin to call out in prayer
and demolish as we war
over individuals with our
divinely empowered
weapons.

· The first aspect of the

stronghold He mentions
is “speculations”-
logismos (plural
logismoi). This word
speaks not of the
scattered individual
thoughts of humans but
of their calculative
reasoning, their wisdom
or logic. It becomes what
one really believes -- the
person’s mind-set. Now
James 3”15 tells us they
come from the earth, the

soul or intellect and

demons.
The word logismos
includes philosophies
(conscious or
unconscious) -anything
that causes a person to
think a certain way.
How does a logismos
blind an individual? How
do they veil truth? The
way the human mind
functions dictates that
when people hear the

gospel, before they even

have time to think or
reason about what they are
hearing, it is filtered
through the subconscious
or memory where all other
information-including
these logismoi is stored.
This means that
unbelievers don’t hear
only what we are saying,
they hear what we are
saying, they hear what we
are saying plus what they
already believe.

Perhaps you already know

what these logismoi are in
the person for whom you
are praying. If not, ask the
Holy Spirit to reveal them
to you. He will. And when
He does, call them by
name, quoting 2
Corinthians 10:3-5. Say,
“In the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ I am
destroying you, stronghold
of…” Do it daily until the
person comes to Christ.

· The second part of the

stronghold we must
demolish is “every lofty
thing raised up against
the knowledge of God.” I
like using the KJV for
this verse because it uses
“high thing” to translate
the Greek word
hupsoma, which is
actually the same root
word for “Most High”
God. It actually means
“any elevated place or
thing.” This is referring

to the same root of pride

we discovered hidden in
the word “blinded” in 2
Corinthians 4:3.4. It is
the “most highness” that
came to humanity at the
Fall when Adam and Eve
bought the lie, “You will
be like God” (Genesis
3:5)
One leading lexicon even
defined hupsoma as “all
pride that rises up.” The
word would then
encompass all mind-sets

that exalt themselves

against the knowledge of
God. It involves a desire to
rule our own lives, decide
for ourselves right and
wrong and basically be our
own god. The good news is
that we can also tear down
this stronghold in people
through spiritual warfare so
they can humble
themselves and bow their
knees to Christ.

· Read and declare for each

of the person you are
praying for using 2
Corinthians 10:5 again,
this time from The
Living Bible:
“These weapons can break
down every proud
argument against God and
every wall that can be
built to keep ... (name)
from finding him. With
these weapons I can
capture rebels and bring

them back to God and

change them into men
whose hearts’ desire is
obedience to Christ.”
The Lord doesn’t wish us
luck or tell us that we will
win a few once in a while.
He lets us know we can
break down every proud
argument and every wall;
we can capture rebels!
Consider the third aspect of
strongholds. The Lord tells
us we can take “every

thought captive to the

obedience of Christ.” The
word “thought” is noema,
which also means plans,
schemes, devices or plots. It
refers to thexpn
spontaneous thoughts and
temptations Satan uses to
assault the unbelievers, as
well as the schemes and
plans he uses to keep them
in darkness. In intercession
we must

ability to convict or
convert.
We can turn unbelievers
“from darkness to light and
from the dominion of Satan
to God” (Acts 26:18). We
are called to enforce and
make effectual the freedom
Christ procured.
The unbeliever cannot war
for himself. He cannot and
will not overcome the
strongholds of darkness,
and he will not understand

the gospel until the veil

lifts. We must take our
divinely dynamic weapons
and fight. The powers of
darkness will resist, but “do
not be afraid of them,
remember the Lord who is
great and awesome, and
fight for your brothers, your
sons, your daughters, your
wives, and your houses”
(Nehemiah 4:14).
