SALA-ALÁYA: A CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS IN CLARK, PAMPANGA

ABSTRACT

People naturally thrive with creativity. They are creatures of art. Living, breathing art.

From the tip of their hairs to the bottom of their feet, all concocted by perfect divine architecture.

Art is the mother of life. It is the nerves, the spinal cord, the vision, it is the deeper meaning and

the soul of what brings us all together. It’s what drives passionate release into the world so vivid

and tenacious that sparks an eloquent quest for indelible beauty and forwardness.

The need for an outlet to present the creativity of humans arises so is their literacy and

cultural appreciation. Through time, tastes vary for trendiness and avant-garde however,

timeless—classical pieces remain appreciated throughout for their structure and deliciously

melded symphonies. An example would be Mozart and his popular piece “Ein Klein

Nachtmusik” which is still profoundly eminent for its musical gravitas and excellence.

Around the world, performing arts centers like theatres, opera houses, concert halls, are

being celebrated everyday with utter appreciation and cordial joy. Most of them made icons and

landmarks like Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall and Esplanade because of their

remarkable architecture. The designers managed to capture the essence of the institution, which

is to deliver motion, to captivate and to deliver an experience--and translate it to the design of the

building. It is no wonder that when you walk through the halls or simply view the façade, you’ll

feel a sensation of belongingness even without having to spectate a performance because the

building itself tells a story.

Performing arts centers set the tone for art and architecture. They are the vessels for

opportunity—the epicenters of creativity and passion which unify all of different ethnicities,
religion, etc. and dictate or introduce new perspectives in diverse neo-cultural forms. They are

accelerating and setting forth innovation for the future years to come.

Unfortunately, there is this lack of adequate performance venues in the Philippines that

could accommodate large numbers of people. And whose acoustics and stage technologies are

not up to par with modern requirements.

It is because of this lack that this dissertation aims to stimulate awareness of the need for

adequate, comfortable, modern and beautiful performance centers in the Philippines.

With the recent developments in the world of entertainment, the future looks promising

for the Philippines. The need to build a performing arts center must be satisfied, so as to gain the

benefits of a lucratively assuring future. It is high time to gather all resources and face the

demands of the global markets.

Building the performing arts center will meet the challenges on poverty, unemployment,

and inequality. It will also deepen domestic and international connectivity and collaboration. It

will be a venue for continued learning that will sustain our supply of creative talents for years to

come.

The performing arts center will be a platform of many functions and purposes, but most

of all, it will be an assuring gleaming indicator that the near future is better and brighter than

ever!
