The two women in “the little black boy” by w.

Blake and “Thank you ma’am” by

Hughes acted as sincere, wise and loving mothers. Explain

William Black considered the “the little black boy “poem in his collection the
songs of innocence which first published in 1789. The main theme in this poem is
rejecting slavery and racism and expose to the suffering of the black people in the
western community in the eighteenth century. He chooses the protagonist of his
poem to be a little black child as symbol of purity and innocence and he all the
time confirms that being black doesn’t always mean being bad or something
inferior, stupid or monster.

My mother bore me in the southern wild,

And I am black, but O! my soul is white;

Blake emphasizes that though he is a little black boy but his soul is white and is
better than many white people. It is a poem which gives the reader an insight in
which how the black people, especially children, see the world.

My mother taught me underneath a tree

And sitting down before the heat of day,

She took me on her lap and kissed me,

And pointing to the east began to say

The mother of the little black boy is very wise and sincere who bore her son in
Africa and began to teach him about life and existence under a tree as a symbol of
poor places in Africa and there is no place to educate but primitive natural places
which we all began with this stage , she is very wise woman who has a fruitful
wisdom about life and she is very simple . she also suffers a lot and doesn’t care
about the heat pf the sun and put her son in the safe side away from the heat
because she loves him. giving her son kisses while she is teaching him is another
reference for merci, love and kindness of such a mother.

Look on the rising sun: there God does live

And gives his light, and gives his heat away.
And flowers and trees and beasts and men receive
Comfort in morning joy in the noonday.
The mother teaches her lovely boy to look at the rising sun. it gives all the beings
on the earth the same source of life and it doesn’t distinguishes between things or
people. She continue saying with much more wisdom about all of us need the heat
and bright of the sun and we all need each other and being black isn’t bad or
inferior at all because in the heat of the sun in a extreme sunny day you need the
shadow which is black to sit as a protection of the sun rays.

Langston Hughes wrote the American short story “Thank You, Ma'am" and
published on 1958. The main theme of this short story is the power of a complete
compassion and wisdom of such a woman. this short story has directed and teaches
its reader great values.

There are only two characters of the story Roger and the woman , roger is not a
bad boy but he is a boy in need and bad circumstances punched to steal to meet
simple need like a new shoes and the woman gives him and gives all the young an
ideal idea about stealing and to not do like this and try to be a good person and not
to do bad things into any kinds of excuses whatever happens.

Roger tries to steal the purse of the old woman but she manages to stop him from
stealing her money then she takes him to her house and gives him a time to be back
to the right way during a wise thoughts and companionate behavior .She brings
him some food , gently gives him some lectures, and gives him the money he was
attempting to steal so that he may buy the shoes he needs.

She wisely gives the little boy a lesson in life and love to the extent that in the end
of the short story when he leaves, he wants to say thank you ma’am with his lips
then he shuts the door and leaves.

Finally, in my personal opinion, let me say that both women in “the little black boy
poem and “thank you ma’am” short story are extremely lovely, wise and sincere.
they both give the two boys lessons full of morals in life and love , the mother of
the little black boy teaches her boy and directing him to the love , peace and
equality which lies clearly in the world and the other woman in thank you ma’am
gives also morals in complete passion and love to the boy who tries to steal in
order to meet his need in buying a new blue shoes.

I completely agree with both of them and comparing between them is like
comparing between apples and apples , we need both of these education in our life
stages from the first earlier life until we grow up , but likely I tend to the mother of
the little black boy who is a mother by nature purifying the future of her child to be
a good person when he grows up . I absolutely prefer he magical influential
upbringing for her child giving him the most proper vaccine for the racism and
arrogance which he will face in the world when he becomes elder.
