Reading from the Koran

1. Copy the phrase which begins each Surah.

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

2. In Surah 35, what is the nature of the Creator, or God? What instructions are given to the
person reading?
It says that God is true good. If everyone will follow the words of God and do as God said, then
everyone will be rewarded. There is no God other than this one true one. Satan is absolute evil
and the opposite of God. Satan will have nothing to reward people who are different from God.

3. Who is the “Dissembler” in Surah 35?

Satan

4. Discuss the similarities between Surah 35 and your readings from the New Testament.
What do they have in common? How are they different?
They equally describe the correct relationship between God and man. In any of the books it is
said that God will reward everyone who believes in him and will follow his words. God is
described as absolute truth.

In Surah 35, Satan is given special attention. There is a mention that this is evil and that you
should not follow it. The Old Testament, as far as I remember, does not focus on a specific
essence of evil (like Satan), but simply describes in general that people who do not believe in God
will be punished.

5. Read the first section of Psalm 136 from the Old Testament. Compare it to the excerpt from
Surah 55. Remember to use details in your comparison.
Both of these passages describe God as the creator of everything in this world. Let them have
different spellings. The lines of the Koran are almost equal to the lines of the Bible. Now I will
show you with specific examples. On the sun and the moon in the Koran: "The sun and the moon
pursue their ordered course" In the Bible: "... who made the great lights — the sun to govern the
day, the moon and stars to govern the night;". On heaven in the Qur'an "He raised the heaven on
high and set the balance of all things, that you might not transgress it." About heaven in the Bible
"... who by his understanding made the heavens ...". About the earth in the Quran "... He laid the
earth for His creatures, with all its fruits and blossom bearing palm, chaff covered grain and
scented herbs ....". About earth in the Bible "... who spread out the earth upon the waters ...".
Different religions and different books describe the same thing with the same words.
