Claim: It is no longer possible for a society to regard any living man or

woman as a hero.
Reason: The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will
eventually be diminished.

It is true that unpleasant facts reported by the media frequently damage a public figure's
reputation, this is not always the case. First of all, people have grown accustomed to today's so-
called "startling" revelations, which are typical. Nowadays, no one is shocked when a celebrity
gets divorced, has an affair with a famous person, or has drinking issues. People don't demand
perfection from the people they look up to.

An individual's reputation can occasionally be enhanced by a personal defect. For instance, a pop
singer who battles addiction and triumphs over it may garner more sympathy and appreciation
from his or her fans than someone who did not struggle with addiction and maintained a moral
life. The reputation of our idols does not necessarily suffer irreversibly when bad things are
spoken about them.

Furthermore, even if the information obtained by the media is extremely repulsive and damages
a person's reputation as a whole, it does not preclude admiration for a person's individual
accomplishments. People are selectively perceived as heroes by humans. People are frequently
willing to overlook incorrect behavior if it does not occur in the area where the public figure
achieved success. For instance, there have been reports of NFL stars beating their wives. Despite
the fact that no one condones this behavior or views them as model citizens, people nonetheless
hold them in high regard for their football accomplishments, making them idols in a small
portion of the population. It's also important to remember that we all view our heroes through
"rose-colored glasses."

Blind adoration frequently leads to people ignoring or even dismissing as untrue the bad media
reports about their idols. For instance, despite numerous shocking revelations about the current
American president Donald J. Trump, including his bragging about abusing women in a women's
dressing room, racist remarks on numerous occasions, or deceptive business practises, a sizable
portion of the population still respects and supports him. The public prefers to focus on the
positive aspects of their idols' lives and ignore the problematic ones, so despite the media's
"efforts," the public figure's hero status is frequently upheld.

To conclude, media scrutiny of a hero does not always precipitate their falling from grace, even if
some uncomfortable truths about them are found. Not every negative fact ruins one's
reputation.Besides, people often choose to ignore negative information about their idols.
