1. Equipment required:
Thecus OS6 with DHCP. In order to ensure successful initiation, we strongly recommend working
with a ROUTE and support UPnP forward ( UPnP port management )(UPnP IGD) function.
*1 ASUS RT-N16, ASUS RT-N66, ASUS RT-AC66U or NETGEAR WNDR3700. (ASUS RT-N12 D1 UPnP
port forward supported, but the Ethernet supports up to 100Mbps only) (N2310, N4310 and all
Thecus NAS support up to 1000Mbps).
*2 Thecus OS5 & OS6 base on internet security issue, thus unsupported PPPoE to publish whole NAS
on the internet.。
*3 If you do not know your current network, please consult with your Internet Service Provider (ISP),
Thecus reseller, or with Thecus directly.
2. Initiation

2.2. Please install an empty HDD to the HDD tray and place into the NAS, press NAS power button, and
the blue power LED should blink while the white HDD LED turn on.
2.3. Visit http://install.thecus.com/ to download the latest version of Intelligent NAS。
2.4. First, install INTELLIGENT NAS. Once your PC or NB asks for permission for to connect (activity),
please choose ALLOW otherwise your system would block the Intelligent NAS and inaccessible to
NAS.
2.5. Once you open the INTELLIGENT NAS, the system will scan the NAS automatically. Choose your NAS
and click “Next” as seen below:
2.7. If any existing data is found by Intelligent NAS that does not belong to OS6 (N2310, N4310), the
following screen will be displayed: (If you click ”CONTINUE”, all data will be erased for new JBOD
or RAID volume)
2.8. The JBOD or RAID creation time depends on HDD(RAID) volume size:
NOTE: If you click back you can reclick and check again.
2.9. Once the JBOD or RAID creation is completed, you can create your THECUS ID account, or click
NEXT to skip and you will be able to re-configure/create your THECUS ID from the NAS ADMIN

3.4. Thecus T-OnTheGO’s function base is on WEBDAV service, default at port 9800. (Recommended to
stay at port 9800)
4. You need to create a user account (LOCAL USER CONFIGURATION) than assign folder permisson
(SHARE FOLDER ACL) (ACL=Access Control List), and enable access to the nonpublic folder. They
assigned user account & folder permssion will apply to WINDOWS NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD
(SAMBA), FTP, Thecus T-OnTheGo & AFP for APPLE OSX.
4.1. Create user account & password.
At least 4 characters needed for user account & password.
Only nonpublic folder (PUBLIC = NO) has an ACL icon to configure, thus here we create an
nonpublic folder “afolder”.
4.3. Drag the USERA to the WRITABLE blue area, and click APPLY.
If it is an open permission share folder (PUBLIC =YES), just click the right mouse key to map network

If it is nonpublic ACL share folder (PUBLIC =NO), you will need to key-in the user account & password.
Warning: Windows will auto save the connection account & password automatically. If you want to
test mutiple accounts & ACL, please doing test from FTP.
Once you are logged in, go to the share folder and right click map network drive.

Microsoft IE supports FTP client connection, but does not support UTF-8 encode. For ASIA users, it is
strongly recommended to choose the FTP client program which support UTF-8, such as FILEZAILLA
https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1
If you need to access via FTP (FILEZILLA) to ensure multiple user ACL/permission, you can do so via
QUICKCONNECT to verify difference user accounts. FTP will show which folders the users have
access to, but Windows NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD (SAMBA) (SMB) will list all NAS folders and
users will need to click each folder to see the status.

can access with a browser at http://172.16.67.1:9800/ (if NAS IP at 172.16.67.1) This will enable you
