A book review about The Cinderella and The Cowboy by Judy Christenberry
If you read some of the first part from the book,
you will actually know that it’s a love story type. Ypu can know it too by the title and by just glancing on the cover of the front page. This book talks about the woman, who is a struggling widow, struggles to fight back with her true feelings because she doesn’t want to repeat her past mistake. Judy Christenberry has been writing romances for fifteen years, because she loves happy endings as much as her readers do. A former French teacher now she devotes herself to writing full-time. She didn’t actually start writing until she turned thirty-eight, the year after the heartbreak of her father’s unexpected death. It became apparent that there were two central themes domination her writing: family and small- town life. In addition, many of her books have cowboy heroes because of the influence of her parents, who both grew up on farms. She believes that, ”laughter is good medicine.” To make the story short, Elizabeth Ransom is a widow of Reggie Ransom and having two little angles namely, Brady and Jenny. Reggie was not a good husband to Elizabeth. When he died, Elizabeth had a hard time looking for Reggie’s home whose Reggie’s father is there. She was hoping for at least reggie’s father would offer hospitality for a few days because Elizabeth has no where to go with her children. Finally she found Tom Ransom’s house, Reggie’s father, at first she thought that Tom would be mad at her but she’s wrong. Tom is a very kind rich old man. He is then happy when Elizabeth told him that Elizabeth and Reggie have two angels and that would mean he is a grandfather now. Tom has his manager, employee and a friend for 10 years and his name is Jack. Jack is in his thirty’s. During her stay in Tom’s home she then little by little getting to know the people inside the house. Tom would provide them anything they want. Jack always teases Elizabeth until he falls in love with her. He’s a kind man and a father like to Elizabeth’s children. He’s madly in love to Elizabeth. He likes her personality, her being so responsible, kind and humble. However, Elizabeth is a type of person who is hard- headed, stupid in love and worst, she denies for her feelings. She’s afraid to responsibility and she believes that she’s not the right person to the most responsible man, Jack. To break the good weather in the house, there is a woman came who is claiming that she is reggie’s wife. The only purpose why that woman, kim went at Tom’s house is to get reggie’s bank because she knew that Reggie’s bank had so much money in there but she failed to do so for she’s found as a thief and when she can’t runaway from that awkward situation she break the commotion by telling them that she is pregnant too with Reggie. However, Elizabeth is so clever that she suggested to have a home pregnancy test and there, they found out she lied. Elizabeth is so kind and she let her go away, Jack and Tom have nothing to say since Elizabeth has the right to make a decision. As time goes by, Tom and Carol got married, Carol is a friend of Tom, a worker in the house and a ‘secret love’ of Tom. After the wedding, Tom suggested that why not Jack and Elizabeth get married too so that Jack can’t leave and Elizabeth has someone to take care of her children. But then, at first Elizabeth don’t like the idea but of course, she really love her son Brady, that Brady really wanted to have a father. Elizabeth tried to speak to Jack and told him this, “Marriage of convenience” Jack don’t like the idea because in that “marriage of convenience” says that Jack won’t be allowed to touch Elizabeth that means it is a pretended marriage but legally done. And lastly, Elizabeth then realized her feelings when she saw Jack how responsible he is when Jenny got sick and Elizabeth won’t let go his man, his love and his long time crush. They get married and live happily ever after. I really like the good sequence, order or the plot of the story. I don’t give much attention about it since it is really good. I really like the story. YES I AM, sincerely. Especially when the other woman came, because I thought the story would be all about the ranch, the babies, Jack and Elizabeth and Tom but when Kim position herself as the antagonist of the story I get interested because that’s the time that Elizabeth should do something and make that claim untrue. How much her patience would take after Kim has been the headache of the Ransom’s house. As a reader, when it comes to “love”. I often get mad at Elizabeth, the focus of the story because she is so annoying to the point that I got disappointed in her. She only considers her feelings and can’t considers other’s feelings. She doesn’t care for Jack. However, yes I hated her but when it comes to being a mother SHE’S A SUPER HERO for her children I try to understand her since all she wanted is for her children’s happiness and she doesn’t care for her own happiness but at least, she would notice Jack and give her other attention to him because Jack wanted her to become happy and nothing else. The most important learning, I have learned from the book is that don’t be too negative on things that haven’t yet happen because you won’t know that there will be a good thing that might come or waiting for you and you just don’t expect it. Just how Tom and Jack accepted Elizabeth and her children to them.
