the Germany into many series of annexations and wars of conquest, that leave it
smaller, divided, and hardly any to contact between two parts.

then invaded Poland – after making pact with the Soviet Union (the ‘Stalin–Hitler pact’)
under which the two powers shared out Poland. But Britain and France had given
guarantees to Poland Germany. At one stage in the (1939–45) war Germany, with its
allies, controlled most of Europe. During war, Germany was have crises and zones

of Berlin in (1961). East Germany, which was made a Soviet ‘ally’, first in a bilateral
treaty and later in the Warsaw Pact. During 1955 West Germany joined NATO. In 1979
East Germany was made treaties with the USSR, Poland and East Germany, but the 17
million East Germans were still denied with the 62 million West Germans.
 By the end of that year German unification had been negotiated and accomplished. In
American–British–French–Soviet–German negotiations, it was agreed that the new
unified Germany would confirm its acceptance of the Oder–Neisse frontier and its
renunciation of nuclear weapons; that the Soviet forces would leave by 1994, and that
West Germany’s membership of the NATO alliance and the European Union would be
inherited by the new Germany.
II. Opinion
