What is HR Management?
- HR Management: ​The leadership and management of people within an organization
using systems, methods, processes, and procedures that enable employees to optimize
their performance and in turn their contribution to the organization and its goals
- These activities must align and contribute to the organization’s strategies
- Class example- tim hortons vs. starbucks
- These two companies use very different strategies- for example, starbucks uses
premium strategies which require more staff training and therefore are more
expensive to implement

The Significance of HR Management


- The people in an organization are the key drivers of its success
- Humans cost a lot to employ- 1st or 2nd highest investment of an organization
- Resource-based View: ​valuable, rare, in-imitable, non-substitutable

- Who is actually managing the people of an organization? Is it the line manager or human
resource manager?- The answer is line manager
- What is the relation between the human resource manager and the line manager? They
work together to receive optimal results
- Hr tries to influence direct managers but in the end the line managers have the
final say
