Maintaining engagement is very important to make sure everyone listens to the point you
are trying to get across. In the speech “ Problem Solve Like A Computer Programmer “, Kyle
Smyth, the speaker, spoke with emotion, and used ethos, Logos, Pathos, to make sure to keep the
speech with well-prepared thoughts. The way he conveyed his thoughts made sure that the
audience would stay engaged. He even added pictures and examples to make sure the audience
would want to look at those pictures, and in turn, would keep the audience engaged. He did not
stutter, nor did he have filler words. This shows the amount of practice and would show a sense
of ethos because then people would want to listen to what he has to say.
Ethos, Logos, and Pathos, are important parts of the speech that help mold the entire
speech. Kyle Smyth shows a sense of ethos by the way he conveys himself, stating his previous
sense of confidence which makes people want to listen to him. When somebody speaks with
confidence they are more inclined to listen and become more engaged. Furthermore, he added
Logos by showing the logic and reasoning of ways to problem solve like a computer
programmer. For example, Kyle shows the logical breakdown of what goes through a computer
One way Kyle Smyth conveyed his thoughts is by connecting with the listeners. One way
he connected with the listeners was through connecting on the fact that everyone has problems,
and needs to figure out ways to solve them. Everyone does this in a sense which Kyle Smyth
explains that computer programmers do on an everyday basis, solving equations and algorithms
so the code will run correctly. Furthermore, connecting with the audience is an important way to
make sure the audience is staying engaged and listening to what Kyle has to say.
All in all, Kyle Smyth created a solid speech by the way he conveyed himself, and kept
the audience engaged and listening. Using Ethos, Logos, and Pathos, are also important steps to
creating a successful speech. Kyle uses Logos, pathos, and ethos to connect with the audience
and create a sense of likeminds between the speaker and the listener.
