SECRET INK AND FLUORESCENT POWDER

DISCUSSION:

Ultraviolet waves are short waves, beyond the violet at the end of the
spectrum, which are too small to affect our sense of sight. They are produced by
the vibration of electrons and excited to produce fluorescence when irradiated by
the application of Ultraviolet rays.

I. OBJECTIVE:

To know the importance of secret markings and fluorescent powder in


crime detection.

II. SAMPLE AND MATERIALS:

Money bills
fluorescent powder
fluorescent crayon for marking
UV lamp

III. PROCEDURE:

1. Examine a money bill under ultraviolet light.


2. Mark the bill using fluorescent crayon and dust with fluorescent powder.
3. Turn- over the marked and dusted bill to a member of the class.
4. Examine the palmar aspect of the left and right hands of subject under Ultra
Violet light.
5. Note location of specks and smudges of fluorescent powder on the attached
diagram.
6. Examine money bill under ultraviolet light and record written markings in your
manual.
IV. RESULTS AND OBSERVATIONS:

1. Record location of fluorescent powder on the left and right hands in the
diagram. (See attached diagram).
