The uses of future simple

I- How to we use the future simple?


 We can use the future simple with:
-Will have/Shall: (with modal verbs: Can, could, may, need to, have to)
Affirmative Negative Questions
It will rain. It will not/won’t rain. Will it rain?
-Shall: (with subject I or we)
 In questions Ex: Shall I help you to carry the table?
 When we want to suggest an offer Ex: Shall I help you to do your homework?

 The form of the future simple: Will + verb Ex: I will play
-Be going to:
 Plans and intentions for the future when a decision has already been made Ex: Mrs
Lucky is going to meet a friend in town.
 Predictions for the future that are based on present evidence.
Ex: The sky is blue; it is not going to rain. So Mrs Lucky is going to leave her umbrella at
home.
-Signal words: English simple future tense:
 Certain expressions can help us to recognize the tense being used in a sentence. The
following words indicate the use of a future tense:
Ex: In one year, next week, tomorrow…
 However, there are no concrete signal words for going to. We have to examine the context
to determine which future tense to use.
-Going to vs. Gonna:

 In informal contexts (such as text messages and emails between friends) and especially in
spoken English, going to is often contracted to gonna.

Ex: Mrs Lucky is going to meet a friend in town. (more formal/written English).

Ex: I’m gonna meet a friend in town (informal/spoken English).

 Never use this form in formal written English.

-Conjugation of going to:

 The form of be going to: Be + going to + infinitive.

II- When do we use the future simple?
 We use future simple for:
o Spontaneous decisions taken at the moment of speaking

Ex: Good bye Ghali I will go home


o Predictions without having a prove

Ex: Cars will fly in the future.


o Facts

Ex: The bank will open from eight to four.


o Promesses

Ex: I will get you a new laptop.


o Threats

Ex: Stop making too much noise or I will tell my father.


o Advices/Offers

Ex: I will help you with your homework.


Ex: You look pale. Will you see the doctor?
o Asking for a polite request

Ex: Would you please turn off the TV when you finish?
