JOURNAL TITLE: THE PROBLEM OF SHY STUDENTS TALKING IN FRONT OF THE

CLASS

Problems / Events
The problem I have identified this week is the problem of classroom control. I have taught
English Language for Year 3 Arul class . While sharing the work of the students in front, there
were some students who dont want come to the front of the class and spoke. Most students bow
their heads or some point fingers at other students and mention the names of other friends when
asked to speak in front of the class. As a result, I was less satisfied with the student work sharing
session.
A) Analysis
According to Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory (1963), at the age of 8 students experience an
industrial phase versus low self -esteem. To help students master the skills of speaking in public,
teachers need to provide guidance and encouragement so that students do not feel inferior in
academic achievement later even in social relationships with other individuals in their
environment.
The above proposal is based on Operant Conditioning Theory from B.F. Skinner. It is a stimulus
to increase the probability of repetition of positive behaviors desired by the teacher. Although
this reinforcement was given only to the student who spoke in front, indirectly the giving
triggered motivation for other students to do the same.
B) Proposed Follow -up Action
Therefore, the proposed actions that can be submitted to overcome this problem in the teaching
and learning process are:-
Give rewards in the form of souvenirs when students come forward to speak.
Provide praise -shaped reinforcement to students who provide relevant and good critique fund
ideas.
I will also always motivate the students so that they always feel comfortable and throw away the
low self -esteem in them.
Follow -up Action Period
I will try to solve the problem within a week. Management of student behavior problems
undergoes good teaching and learning sessions. If this problem cannot be solved as soon as
possible, it will affect the teaching that will be implemented.
