“Concealed reflections”

Gloc 9 is a known singer, wrapper and songwriter in the Philippines. He became famous because
of his songs that tackle how miserable our society is. His creativity of writing songs, using
ordinary things as a metaphor to describe our situation here in the Philippines is the distinguished
thing about his identity as a singer. His songs have the ability to provide reasons to realize some
realities that we deal in our everyday lives.

In the song “Upuan” a rap music by Gloc-9 has portrayed about the inequality between the rich
and the poor. It is about how is it a result of the abuse and corruption of people in power. The
song was catchy because of its title that serves as a metaphor to describe the position of our
leaders. It is the seat that the politicians occupy which represents their power. Even just from the
title of the song, it gives us clues about the claims and ideas that the song trying to gives us.

The claims that the song said in the first verse are directly stated that the middle and upper
classes are living in big luxury homes, expensive cars, designer things and how much privilege
they have to live a comfortable life because of their position is an asset that made the song
accurately credible. It also implies how the bodies, whom we thought to lead us to a better future,
dare not to try and reach their hands on us, instead they just sit on their chairs and did nothing in
particular. The song also elaborates how the society has been long overdue miserable because of
the irresponsible leaders we have elected. In the song, it was stated that politicians have been
luckily elected yet they do not use their power in the right way yet they use it in their own
personal intentions.

In the 2nd verse of the song, every struggle that needs to be addressed here in our country was
stated. From poverty, shortage of food and lack of money to buy needs. Needless to say that the
song has some sort of coherence in it because of these claims and we must all admit that it is
true. Philippines has been in trouble by enormous number of crimes, increasing unemployment
rate and the very low economy rate that we have. All those problems are making every Filipino
miserable yet the politicians are doing nothing, just sitting down in the called “upuan”.

The entire second verse of the song provides imagery. It describes the life of the oppressed,
which illustrates its stark difference from the life of the elite. The song was recognized the fact
that the “upuan” is a rap song and create an impact to the people that hear it as it engraves the
imagery that it tries to convey.

Ituloy yon… thanks
