Pathfinder Camporee 2023


General Information
Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
Purpose:
To motivate pathfinders and their leaders to grow in the Faith of Christ and
the fulfilment of His Mission.

General Objectives:
i. To inspire the pathfinders to grow in their commitment to Christ and sharing of their faith
with others.
ii. To motivate each pathfinder to become catalysts in energizing their club members to be
more passionate about Pathfindering.
iii. To assist each pathfinder to acquire new skills that will help them complete the
requirements for investiture in their class.
iv. To provide the pathfinders an opportunity for networking, fellowship and adventure.
v. To provide the pathfinders and avenue to utilize the pathfinder skills that they have
already acquired.

1. The Pathfinder Camporee Theme


The theme of the camporee shall be: Pathfinders in Mission

2. The Pathfinder Camporee Date


The official date for the Inter-American Division’s fifth Pathfinder Camporee is April 4-8, 2023.
Campers shall travel to the location on Monday, April 3 and shall return home on Sunday
April 9.

3. Camporee Location
The Camporee shall be held at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium on the North Coast in
Jamaica.

4. Airport
Campers shall fly into the Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay Jamaica which
is located approximately 40 minutes away from the multipurpose stadium where the camporee
will be held.

IMPORTATN NOTE
The Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston is located two and a half hours away from
the location where the camporee will be held. Campers who travel to this airport will have to
calculate additional cost of approximately $35 to cover the ground transportation. They will also
need to consider the additional travel time (approximately 3hrs). It is sometimes cheaper to travel
into Kingston than to Montego Bay. This is so because the Airport in Montego Bay is in one of
the main Tourist destinations in the country.

5. Understanding the Camporee Expenses

The registration fee for each camper shall be one hundred US dollars (US$100). This fee shall
take care of the following:
i. Some administrative expenses to cover the camporee execution
ii. Camporee T-shirt
iii. Camporee Pin
iv. Camporee Patch
v. Four honor patches per pathfinder
vi. Ground transportation from the Montego Bay Airport to the location and back
The total registration of $100 for each pathfinder shall be subsidized by the church organization
accordingly:
i. The Inter-American Division shall contribute - $5.00
ii. The Union shall contribute - $7.00
iii. The local field shall contribute -$8.00

The total cost per camper after subsidy deductions and not including their airfare and additional
personal expense shall be $250 distributed accordingly:
I. Camporee fee - $80
II. Meals @20 per day - $100
III. Meals for travel days- $30
IV. Union shirt and memorabilia - $25
V. Insurance - $15

Other camporee expenses shall include:


i. Cost of Airfare to and from Jamaica (to be determined)
ii. Expense for tour/excursion - $60 (optional)
iii. One camping chair (required)
iv. Personal or shared sleeping tent (required)
v. Sleeping bag/mat or inflatable mattress (required)
vi. Full Pathfinder/Master Guide Uniform (required) that meets the specifications of the IAD
Uniform Manual.

6. Proposed means of funding for each pathfinder
i. The Inter-American Division
ii. The Union
iii. The local field iv. The local Church
v. The local pathfinder Club
vi. Special donors
vii. Special fund-raising project by the pathfinder club
viii. The pathfinder’s personal funding initiative
ix. parental assistance (if possible)

7. Meal Service
 Fields that are desirous of seeking the service of paid caterers may do so through the
Union’s liaison coordinator in Jamaica. In such case a large tent which will serve as a
dining area will be provided by the camp administration.
 Fields that are desirous of preparing their own meals are to do so with the understanding
that :
a. A large tent that will serve as kitchen, food storage and dining area will be
provided by the camp’s administration.
b. They will be required to purchase stoves (one for every 100 campers) at a cost of
$50 plus shipping) per stove.
c. They are to work with the liaison coordinator in Jamaica to source all other items that
will be needed.

Important note:
All fields are required to prepare a menu and grocery list by Friday September 9, 2022.

8. Camporee Main Character


The main biblical character of the camporee shall be Gideon. The story is found in the book of
Judges.

9. Visa and Vaccination Needs


Most countries within the IAD do not need visa to travel to Jamaica. Those countries that do
need, will be able to obtain a letter through the Jamaica Union to the Jamaican Consulate in their
country.
They will need to make this request as early as possible sending the request to the
secretariat@jmunion.org attention Mrs. Doreen Grant. They should include the following:
i. Name of the person desiring the visa as written in the passport
ii. The Passport Number
iii. The country of residence

Jamaica does not currently have a COVID 19 vaccination entry requirement. However,
persons entering from South America areas are required to have the yellow fever vaccination
before entry. Therefore, all participants from Suriname and Guyana require a yellow fever
vaccination card on entry.

10. Promotion
Each union youth director is responsible for the effective promotion of the pathfinder camporee
in his union territory. He may utilize all the possible printed, digital and social media
possibilities to have the camporee properly advertised in his territory. In like manner,
Conference/Mission youth directors are responsible for the effective promotion of the pathfinder
camporee in their respective territories.

11. Registration
The Division website will be officially opened for the registration of Pathfinders on July 10,
2022. However, all participants from the Caribbean Union are to use the link below to register
through their local conference/mission.

Registration will be closed on October 31, 2022. It is important that all pathfinders are
registered within the prescribed date since the number of attendees is necessary for the
procurement of patches, pins and other logistics.

12. Club Directors


It is important that pathfinders attend the camporee with leaders. Club directors who will be
attending must also be registered in the portal as the pathfinders. The cost to each pathfinder is
the same for the club directors.

13. Volunteers
Volunteers will be needed to assist with the execution of various events and aspects of the
camporee. Each volunteer must register in the portal as well and will be responsible for their
camporee expense that will be similar to that of the pathfinders. They must be registered within
the designated time period as well.

14. Parents and Guests


Parents and church member who would like to attend the camporee are welcomed to do so. They
will also need to make the arrangements through their Union to accompany the delegation and
shall be required to pay fees as the pathfinders in order to receive the camporee outfits. Special
arrangements can be made for them where necessary.

15. Hotels and Guest Houses


The Camporee administration shall make arrangements for hotel reservations for individuals who
desire this type of accommodation. Details on this will be made available at a later date.
However, those who desire such arrangements must register in the camporee portal for
consideration to be given. The camporee date is a high season for travelers to Jamaica and
therefore, hotel spaces will be limited. The administration of the camporee will have a certain
number of rooms blocked in hotels for this occasion. It will be made available on a first come
first serve basis.

16. Camporee Administration
The pathfinder camporee shall be administered by an organizing committee that shall have the
administrative authority to act. The Vice President of the Division responsible for supervising the
youth ministries department shall chair this committee and the youth ministries director of the
Division shall be the secretary.

17. Camporee Directorate


The Youth director of the Division shall be the general director of the camporee and associate
directors shall be appointed one representing each of the three major language groups of the
division.

18. Pathfinder Club Directors Zoomaton


Each field director should conduct one pathfinder club directors zoomaton to provide
information, motivation and inspiration to local church club directors, area coordinators and
pastors. The date for the zoomaton should be the first week in October but the final date will be
set by the youth director of the field.

22. Tours & Excursions


There are three possible tours that campers can choose from. Consider the following below:
 Konoko Falls & Park – This tourist attraction site has a mini zoo, botanical garden and a
waterfall. Visitors will have the opportunity to hold an iguana and a macaw for
photographs (selfies included). There is also the option to visit a museum and a lookout
point on the site.
 Dunn’s River Falls and Park – This park offers several attractions; visitors can
participate in the following:
 The tek-a-walk nature hike that takes approximately one hour through an exotic
nature trail.
 An exciting 45 min. waterfall climb.
 A mini children water park.
 A zip -line ride that is available at an additional cost.
 Green Grotto Caves/ Runaway Bay Caves – The central feature of this natural
attraction is the large labyrinthine limestone cave with its numerous rock formations, its
stalactites, stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets. The cave is
characterized by numerous chambers and light holes and a subterranean lake (the Grotto
Lake) that occupies its bowels. Visitors can descend 65 stairs into the cave to visit the
Grotto Lake.
 Puerto Seco Beach- Entry into this beach resort give access to a pool, a Route Finder
floating obstacle challenge, and the beautiful Puerto Seco Beach.

Important Note: The entry charges for these tours and attraction parks are currently being
negotiated so that campers will benefit from a large-group discount. An update on these Cost will
be shared by November 30, 2022.
