Waves of Memories

Summer in 2018 was memorable, dreamy, and fun. These are the 3 (three) words that I could
describe as I look back on traveling the beautiful Island of Siquijor. As we arrived in the Port of Siquijor, I
remember how I was so fascinated by their white sand and peaceful place, the people in the place were
very welcoming and friendly as we arrived, I remembered an old man offering us an itinerary of where
we can go and see some beautiful places in Siquijor. In that offer, it started a one week of fun and
exploration and forever-to-remember memories of the places we went through.

As we went through our adventure, I have seen beautiful beaches and churches, tasted good
foods and delicacies, and experienced many different and fun activities. We went to the beaches around
where I saw the blue and crystal-clear waters of Siquijor, it was like I am in a different universe because
of the mystical beauty I have seen. Also, we went to Lazi, Siquijor where we took a picture with the
broom which is a very famous spot in Siquijor. From there, we saw a plantation of beautiful and
tantalizing flowers which I wish I could take home and show to my mother.

In the following hours, after we visited the different beaches and the Cambugahay Falls, we
went to the Old Enchanted Balete Tree, in there, we had fun fishing gathering our feet submerged in
water. It was relaxing, after then, we head to the stores near the vicinity where they sell souvenirs,
keychains, shirts, magnets, etc. I was very amazed by the designs of their keychains because we all know
that Siquijor is not just known for beaches, falls, and good food, but also known for witchcraft stories,
with that their keychains are designed like a doll used for “kulam” and little bottles with some color on
it. In the end, I bought several items and heard several stories from the locals, where they talk about
some myths and urban legends in their place.

It was one of the most memorable summers for me, I got to spend time with my aunt and
cousin who went home from Germany. I have also realized that our family’s way of spending time or
bonding together is traveling, we tend to have fun and go around tourist spots to tour around and
discover beautiful places together. Moreover, I say that traveling is very important to experience
different cultures and cuisines and discover the foundation or the starting stones of history and the
stories of the past. I have always loved travel since I was a kid, the beautiful views, people, and beaches
that will always imbed and crash into my mind, like waves of memories.
