– The fluid level must always be assessed relative to the brake
pad wear. When vehicle is in use, fluid level tends to drop
slightly due to wear and automatic adjustment of brake pads.
– If the brake fluid level is at or slightly above the MIN mark and
the brake pads have almost reached the wear limit, topping up
is not required.
– If the brake pads are new or a long way from reaching the wear
limit, the fluid level should be between the MIN and MAX
marks.

– Turn tap in direction of filler hose -arrow-. ATF will run into
gearbox.
– Hold suitable container underneath drain of filler system.
– Check ATF level by turning the tap in direction of drain
-arrow-. The fluid level is correct if only a small quantity of ATF
drips from the drain before the ATF reaches a temperature of
45 ℃.
Note: When opening the tap approx. 5 cl of ATF will always drip
out of the inner fluid level tube.
– If no additional ATF emerges, turn tap back in direction of filler
hose and fill up with more ATF; check fluid level repeatedly.
– Unscrew the tap again once the correct fluid level has been
reached.
Note: After unscrewing the tap a small quantity of ATF will drip
out.
– Close the filler plug again before the ATF reaches a temper‐
ature of 45 °C.
Note: If the ATF temperature is higher than 45 °C, too much ATF
will emerge due to the increase in temperature, resulting in the
gearbox being underfilled!

♦ To check the gear oil the vehicle must be standing absolutely
level. This work is best performed over an inspection pit or
using a 4 -column lifting platform.
♦ The oil filler plug is located on the left side of the gearbox,
below the sender for the speedometer and may be concealed
by the heat shield for the drive shaft.
♦ Depending on the version fitted, use either special tool -3357-
or a 17 mm hexagon key to loosen the oil filler plug.
Note
– Remove oil filler plug -B- (in front of flange shaft) to check gear
oil level.
– Check oil level using a self-made tool, e.g. a piece of angled
wire.
♦ Specification: oil level 1 mm below bottom edge of oil filler hole
(tolerance: ± 1 mm)
Note
♦ If the oil level is below the range specified, the gearbox must
be checked for leaks (repair measure). It is then not sufficient
to merely top up the oil.
♦ If you do not find any leaks on the gearbox, top up with gear
oil SAE 75W90 (synthetic oil) -G 052 911 A- .
All models:
– Tighten oil filler plug.
