Welcome to Harper College
Hi again, you have enrolled in the Fall 2021 Online ANYTIME (asynchronous) section of NET 105 - W01: IT Fundamentals. This course is
offered from Aug 23, 2021 to Dec 17, 2021.  I'm looking forward to a great class.

Online ANYTIME courses are delivered 100% online, with no required face-to-face sessions or scheduled virtual class times. Classes are
taught entirely online following instructor timelines and learning outcomes. Students learn content through videos, and materials posted by the
instructor. Interaction takes place through discussion boards and written messages. All assignments are submitted online. Exams and
orientations can all be completed virtually in this modality. Instructors may schedule optional synchronous study sessions, as necessary.
These classes are denoted on the schedule with a “W” in the section number (ex. ENG 101 W01).

College Mission: Harper College enriches its diverse communities by providing quality, affordable, and accessible education. Harper College,
in collaboration with its partners, inspires the transformation of individual lives, the workforce, and society.

Please read the Syllabus in its entirety. Included above is a PDF version of this Syllabus.

NOTE: I reserve the right to make changes and redistribute the Syllabus, Schedule and Due Dates (the likelihood of changes is low).  Any

later than the due date and time. Late work will not be accepted.

Grades will not be rounded - the course is set up to offer multiple attempts to earn a successful score on every assignment and the
opportunity to earn extra credit.

Discussion Questions - Accessed and completed in Blackboard. Questions for discussion with the instructor and students in the class.

Study Cards - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify. Each lesson includes study card drills which provide you with a
means to memorize information such as terminology, definitions or concepts. You may complete the cards as many times as you wish.

Quizzes - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify. Each lesson includes quick assessment of fundamental knowledge
that will serve as the foundation for more complex concepts. You may complete the quizzes 25 times.

Labs - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify. Each lesson includes hands-on labs to give you more experience. These
exercises map to the exam objectives. You may complete the labs as many times as you wish.

Exam 1 - 4 - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify. The exams may be attempted twice (one retake allowed, but not on
the same day). If you complete an exam twice, the higher score counts.

Exam 2 & 4 - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify and proctored in Harper's Testing Center. The exams may be
attempted twice (one retake allowed, but not on the same day). If you complete an exam twice, the higher score counts.

Final Exam - Accessed through Blackboard and completed using uCertify. These questions test your knowledge of the course content. You
may complete the exam as many times as you wish. Passing the Final Exam with an 80% or better is a requirement in this course. If
you cannot pass the Final Exam with a 80% or better you will not pass this course and most likely the CompTIA ITF+ Certification
Exam.

NOTE: Only purchase the OPTIONAL material in addition to the required material if you also like a physical version of the digital text (which is
required).

Financial Aid: Students receiving more estimated financial aid than their tuition and fees may be able to use that expected excess aid to
purchase books.

Please make sure to purchase the materials and register the access code sometime within or at the end of the two-week trial period.  You will
no longer have access to uCertify content after the two-week trials period ends without a registered access code.

To complete the Pre-course Assessment you may need this section key (K-LTAZ-PAY8-RZHY) to link the online content with Blackboard and
your course.

Make sure to use your First Name, Last Name and Harper email address when requested during the purchase of your access code or
creation of your uCertify Account. Accessing the online content from Blackboard will require you to have used your Harper email address in
your uCertify profile.

One more thing; you must go through Blackboard to start each assignment. Once you have created your uCertify account do NOT log in
to uCertify directly. By logging in to uCertify directly without going through Blackboard several negative results will occur.  The first, you will be
unable access all uCertify assignments/activities, second; you will miss those assignments not located in uCertify and only available in
Blackboard, lastly and most importantly, your scores will NOT sync to Blackboard.

When scores do not sync to Blackboard it appears that you have not completed them which could result in a zero (0) for the assignment(s).
Also, this Blackboard course uses Adaptive Release, this means that certain assignments (e.g.; Exam Preps, Exams) are only made visible
when previous assignments are completed.  I will recap just to make sure you understand the gravity of the information I just provided.

If your scores do not sync, certain assignments are not visible which means you will not be able to attempt them which intern means
you will receive a zero (0) for that assignments regardless of the weight of that assignment (e.g.; Exam).

See attached for instruction on how to:

Register your access code with uCertify and link to the course

Questions?
It is important to me that each of you is successful in this course. Please contact me if something is unclear to you or if you have a
question.

Consider whether other students may have the same question and post it in the Readings and Assignments Discussion Board (Discussion
Board > Readings and Assignments). Otherwise, e-mail me using the subject "NET 105 Question" and I will reply to you within 24 hours of
receiving the message Monday through Friday. To reiterate, I will respond posted questions and emails Monday – Friday and on Saturday
morning or early afternoon. Questions posted in the Reading and Assignments Forum or emails received on Saturday after noon or on
Sunday will be answered on Monday.

Please use Blackboard to send your emailed questions. Please be professional when asking your questions. Be as precise as possible.
Include information like course #, module #, chapter #, page #, even screen captures work great as supplemental information. The more clear
you are when asking your question, chances are the more clear my reply will be.

Don't wait until the last minute to work on assignments. Allow enough time to work on assignments so that you have time to ask me
questions. This way I can coach and mentor you to success! The course policies noted below are intended both to help you develop good
work habits and to help me work with you all in an organized, efficient and effective manner.

Please e-mail me at anytime if you notice a typographical error/omission in the course materials or have questions/concerns about the course
structure, instructional style, or course content.

Assignments Feedback
You can expect me to reply to your assignment submission within one week (seven days) of the due date. Blackboard and uCertify will be
used as a repository for all course information, assignment submission, testing, and feedback. Assignments must be submitted for grading
using Blackboard or uCertify. Printed or emailed documents will not be accepted. Feedback will be both numeric and written. Graded
assignments will be available in Blackboard along with my comments (if applicable). You should always check your grades under "My
Grades" within Blackboard.

Assignment Policies
Students who fall behind or who do not actively participate in course discussions will lose access to the course and must meet with the
instructor to resume participation. However, if you complete the course early, further participation is not required.

Each assignment will have specific submission instructions

Do not send any e-mail attachments or e-mails with embedded files
I do not open e-mail attachments and will be unable to grade your assignment
This results in a grade of zero for the assignment
Only attach documents to an assignment if the directions indicate
Do not attach ANY documents except those specified in the assignment instructions
If you attach another type of document other than that indicated (such as a Word file or Excel spreadsheet), I will be unable to
grade your assignment
This results in a grade of zero for the assignment
When using an electronic resource (such as a web page), restate the author’s thoughts in your own words
Always list the URLs you use as resources in your assignments
Failure to follow these specifications may result in a zero on the assignment

Extra Credit
You may earn 2 points extra credit during each module when you report on one web-based article or tutorial dated within the past three
months regarding computer networking. To report on the article, post a message in this forum that contains the exact, specific URL of the
resource and a written description of the article along with your comments or reactions to the article. (Note: the size of your posting should be
the equivalent of a one-page double-spaced word processor document with 10 or 12 pt type and 1 inch margins.)

E-mail me (the instructor) for prior approval of your extra credit article. A resource may only be reported on by one student. A resource will not
qualify for extra credit if it has already been posted in this forum.
