Content of the Course:

Unit 1: X-ray Machines and Computed Tomography: 6 hours


X-ray machines - X-ray computed tomography - different generations - spiral CT - SPECT -
PET - X-ray image intensifier – Fluoroscopy.

Unit 2: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Systems: 6 hours


Principle of NMR imaging systems - chemical shift - basic NMR system components -
detection system-gradient systems for cooling - relaxation time - applications of NMR
imaging.

Unit 3: Other Imaging Techniques: 6 hours


Ultrasound - generation and detection of ultrasound - physics of thermography -
thermographic equipments - electrical impedance tomography.

Unit 4: Principles of Biomedical Instrumentation: 6 hours


Physiological signal amplifiers - isolation amplifier - differential amplifiers - bridge
amplifiers - chopper amplifiers – noises.

Unit 5: Bioelectric Signal Recording: 6 hours


Bioelectric potentials resting and action potentials - half cell potentials-ECG, EMG, EEG
recording units-cardiac pacemakers - natural and artificial pacemakers - hemodialysing units
- peritoneal dialysis.
