Zosyne: Nothing beats the amazement whenever we’d discover something about us and our

nature, yes? The satisfaction upon the realization that we’ve learned something is utmost.
Good day, mga ka-ZoTalk… another day, another info will lay! Today, we have a very special
guest! Yes special guest talaga because, this is a direct descendant of a famous sociologist!
She too is an aspiring one and note that she has a really heavy schedule… but, we made her
attend this show. ‘Di ba, sosyal ang inyong mima! Okay, I know you are thrilled already to
meet her so enough with the babbling. Condition your ears, because this is ZoTalk with a
Folk! Everyone, let’s give a hand to our guest today, Lady Jorraine!
L: Wow, what a warm welcome! I am getting goosebumps from this, huh.
Z: Excited yata ma-meet ka! So anyway, I’ve heard na you are a direct descendant of a
sociologist ha!
L: Nakaka-flatter naman yan! Secret lang dapat yan ih! But anyway, to answer your
question… yes. I am the great great great grandchild of the ever famous, Talcott Parsons.
Unbelievable right?! Like who would even think that someone from this country might be a
descendant if him. You know, no one really knew about it. Even my closest friends, they
didn’t know kaya their emotions were mixed when they heard about that. As in, ‘di ko alam
if I would be offended or maaamuse nalang sa reaction nila. I even jokingly asked them,
“Why? Do I look like someone that is not worthy enough to be part of his bloodline?” We
laughed it off, and ever since, we considered that as an inside joke. Kaya they call me
sampid!
Z: I love your friend group hah! They look fun to be with tapos you are not so sensitive. Can I
join? Hehehe.
L: Of course, feel free! We accept pa naman siguro ‘di ba friends from the crowd?
Z: Sige, kasali na ako kasi desisyon ako! SO… tell me about your great great great
grandfather.
L: Oh, my Lolo! I know nothing, I didn’t even get to see him ‘di ba?! Kidding. So, my Lolo is
Talcott Parsons. Yes, he was a sociologist, and a very known one. He contributed to the
theory of social action and he particularly discussed the action-frame of reference and
social-system. He had the advantage to review scholars from sociology and other social
scientists as well. He believed that all the contributions of the social scientists lead to one
direction to arrive or converge to one single notion of social action. He wanted to
understand how cultural and social values are internalized into personality system. He
believed that the three components of action are personality, social, and cultural systems.
He also particularly believed in pattern variable scheme where every individual or even a
community can have alternative choices. You know, it is said that he contributed to the
study of sociology, specifically functionalism. He was of big help to this industry, however
there were a few critiquing with his claim. There was this one scholar who said that his
perception is too complicated and that he has to make it simpler. Several scholars also said
that it appears theoretical to nature that it already looks a grand theory. Talcott said, he
rebutted saying that it was okay. He said that in sociology it is not prohibited to present
theoretical formulations in sociology, rather it is a MUST to present one. Which is right ‘di
ba, social scientists must be comprehensive enough to get the idea and comprehend the
perspective… because that’s the point. He even confirmed that his studies are concerned
with theoretical schemes only and he left the sociologists a task to understand his
perspective. Robert K. Merton attempted to follow this idea of him.
Z: Wow, I can say your Lolo was really something. Big time, nux naman.
L: Yes, though medyo confusing talaga yung perspective niya but if we are to dig deeper, it
will be understandable… much easier. Actually, I have a handbook here with me. It is
compiled of different infos related to him. If you’d allow me, I’ll show it to you and to
the viewers.
Z: Yes, sure! I will be honored.

Z: Grabe ang bigat! I didn’t know I would be this challenged ha!
L: Don’t worry you’re not alone! Ako rin, when I first studied about him, I swear, my head
was throbbing unable to process everything. But eventually naman, I managed to
view it the same way he did. Because of the blood? Could be. But I am certain that it
was because I studied and understood it deeply. I really wanted to learn eh, and so I
did!
Z: That’s such a genius act of you! I’m a fan!
… So I guess that’s where it ends.
L: I guess nga, we are running out of time na, charot.
Z: It was fun talking to you ha! I have learned a lot, for sure the crowd did too.
L: Oh, that’s good to know. It is my pleasure to be here now.
Z: It is a pleasure to have you here, Miss.
