Established
as
the
College
of
Medical
Sciences
in
1960,
under
the
directorship
of
the
visionary
Dr
K.N.
Udupa,
 this
 prestigious
 institution
 came
 into
being
as
the
Institute
of
Medical
Sciences
in
the
year
1971.

Today,
it
is
one
of
the
largest
institutes
in
India,
having
three
Faculties
and
Nursing
College
with
around
 60
 Departments
 running
 under
 it,
 conducting
 four
 undergraduate
 courses
(M.B.B.S.,
B.A.M.S.,B.D.S.,
B.Sc.
Nursing)
along
with
each
Department
running
Postgraduate
(MD/MS)
and
superspeciality
degree
(D.M./M.Ch.)
courses
under
three
great
professional
bodies‑
the
National
Medical
Commission,
the
Central
Council
of
Indian
Medicine
and
the
Dental
Council
of
India.
More
than
1000
students
take
admission
in
this
great
seat
of
learning
every
year
and
5000+
students
reside
in
its
premises.To
teach
these
students
and
to
deliver
bonafide
medical
service
to
the
millions
of
patients
visiting
its
hospitals,
it
has
around
700
faculty
members
at
the
designations
of
Assistant
Professor,
Associate
Professor
and
Professor.

BHU
is
the
largest
residential
university
in
Asia.The
university
is
one

the

public
institutions

Institute

Eminence

Government

India

NIRF

BHU

often
been
referred
by
different
names
throughout
the
history

the

BHU

the
medical
fraternity

 colleges
 from
 all
 over
 the
 country.
