Abortion is the termination of pregnancy.

There are multiple types of abortion, but the

kind that is very controversial is induced abortion. It is the expulsion of fetus or embryo
from the uterus. In the Philippines, many Filipino women experience unintended or
unwanted pregnancies, especially those in teenage years seeks abortion, but because it
is illegal and highly stigmatized in our country, they chose to undergo unsafe abortion.
The most common reason for inducing abortion is because of an unwanted pregnancy,
especially teenage pregnancy. Women getting pregnant in their early years are
criticized and highly stigmatized by the society, and sometimes even by their own family
that has resulted to women resorting to abortion. The ethical dilemma of abortion on
pro-life versus pro-choice is an issue that dwells until now. The pro-life argues that
abortions are ethically unjustifiable, therefore it is not allowed because it tramples upon
the fetus’ or embryos’ rights to life and other aspects. On the other hand, the pro-choice
argues that abortions are ethically justifiable, therefore it is allowed on the grounds that
the procedure is safe. The rights of women or the mother to make a decision is highly
regarded and much prioritized than the fetus and other aspects involved.
Personally, as a pro-life, I am against induced or voluntary abortion because it defies
the fetus’ or embryos’ human rights: right to life. It also defies the Mens Rea principle
and the Harm Principle. The Mens Rea principle states that “the intentions of the agent
should be given weight”; and the Harm principle states that “you should not inflict
serious harm on other people,” both are violated by abortion. As the fetus or embryo is
weak, innocent, helpless, and has no voice, their right to life must be protected at all
cost. The fact that the woman or the mother who decided to have an abortion made the
decision deliberately, knowingly, and voluntarily makes induced abortion immoral and
ethically unjustifiable. Regardless, whether it was still in the fetus or embryo stage, I
regard them as human beings with the same rights as any human beings, because I
believe that life started from the point of conception. I personally feel disgusted by the
people who has the guts to have an abortion when it is the sole fruit of their making.
When people engage in sexual intercourse that resulted to pregnancy, whether it is
wanted or unwanted, I believe that they are responsible with the action that they have
made and its corresponding consequences. They must fulfill their duties as they also
deliberately and knowingly did the action of intercourse with a possibility of pregnancy.
No reason can suffice or justify abortion because it is the intentional killing of a fetus or
embryo which is considered as murder. Abortion will never be an answer.
