REACTION PAPER
Introduction:
Ethics is the right or wrong behavior, good and bad actions, and the justification of what
makes them right and wrong. Ethical behaviors are practices and decisions guided by legal and moral
principles to benefit the greater good. Professionalism on the other hand is the skill, good judgment,
and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well. Profess is a calling
that requires specialized knowledge and often long and intensive academic preparation. An
individual’s adherence to a set of standards, code of conduct or collection of qualities that
characterize accepted practice within a particular area of activity. According to our lessons,
sometimes it is easier to just define professionalism in terms of attributes. These are some of
attributes of what we considered being professional, Specialized knowledge, we see a person being
professional if he has specialized knowledge and deep personal commitment to develop relevant
and up-to date skills. Competency, this meant to be reliable, knows how to keep promises and
manage expectations. Honesty and Integrity this is action matching words, your actions should be
integrated with your words so what you say is what you and what you preach is what you do, and
this is also guided by values. This is important because trust in the workplace is hard to develop.
Accountability, not just for what you do but also for your thoughts, words, and actions especially
when a mistake has been committed. Self-discipline, more important here is the control of emotions
and calm and collaborative demeanor you need to know how to become a leader and you also need
to know how to become a member, because we cannot be a leader forever or also stuck for being a
member. Lastly, Confident, and respectable image, this is looking for acceptable behavior and dress
codes and the language that we use.
Body:
Teacher-To-Teacher Conflict
Every teacher shall maintain harmonious and pleasant personal and official relations with
other professionals, with government officials, and with the people, individually or collectively.
(Article 3 Section 7 Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers)
Conflicts at school are bound to happen, but teaching is different from most other
professions and workplaces. Teachers must remain agreeable, for the most part, in front of their
students. Teaching differs from a typical office job, where parties can more directly, and sometimes
publicly, address conflicts. The nature of the classroom environment requires conflict resolution to
occur elsewhere or during windows of time without students present. But why do conflicts arise
between teachers, and what are the triggers for these problems? Below, we will dive into some of
the common causes of conflict for teachers.
Education, like most professions, requires dynamic collaboration between teachers and
other faculty members. For teachers to successfully operate in this type of environment, schools
need to provide strong administrative support. Unfortunately, amazing principals and strong district
leadership are not always present in certain schools or even some districts. If a school system does
not have good principals, teachers can find themselves pitted in conflict with other teachers. The
lack of a solid administrative team can also make an existing conflict worse due to ineffective
mediation. On the other hand, when a school or district sets unreasonable expectations on staff
performance, there is also a much greater chance of disagreements between faculty members.
Other issues can arise from poor infrastructure planning and the misallocation of scarce resources
that cause disputes between different teachers.
Now that we have discussed some of the situations that lead to teacher-to-teacher conflict,
we can look at some of the tools educators can use to resolve these sometimes-tense situations.
Workplace issues can escalate into far worse scenarios if you do not take steps to resolve them
calmly and logically. Teachers that learn to de-escalate and resolve problematic situations can make
the workplace better for the entire faculty. Check out the following conflict resolution tactics for
helpful ideas to reduce conflict within your school.
Conclusion:
Administration must do something for this matter. Teachers and administrators may help
each other in inculcating God to their lives. They must think of innovations or solutions that can
address these issues occurring in school or in the department itself.
An ethical leader not only endeavors TO DO THE RIGHT THINGS but also TO DO THINGS
RIGHT. The school administrator whose behavior is consistent acts morally and hence she/he values
social justice. If the school administrator is not consistent, this causes him/her to lose reliance
among school staff and as a natural outcome of this, the decisions taken by the administrators
become controversial. Administrators who are seen as unfair, unjust, inhumane, or capricious in
their decisions usually buy themselves a great deal of trouble in their jobs. It is indeed that
administrators are seen as unjust as they are to fail because they are seen inefficient. However,
ethics is part of the job. It is essential part of the job. Administrators deal with fairness, equality,
justice, and democracy as they deal with test scores, teachers’ salaries, parents, and budgets. It is
important for the reputation of schools that they have an ethical culture. Therefore, principals
should mind their ethical responsibilities for their teachers; should respect their individual rights and
should be just.
Finally, school principals have a key role in managing schools because they are main decision
makers, they are school leaders, and they have more responsibilities than the other staff. Hence, an
ethical school environment success is a definite outcome of the educational process.
