Indo Pak Relations


1947-1971
After creation lot of issues arose, beside being brother countries we become enemies.
Reasons:
1 Red cliff award
Lot of injustice, based on boundary commission,two from each side. Red Cliff was head. Specially
the provision of Gurdaspur and Ferozpur were given to India altough having major muslim
population. Pakistan lost territory and access to Kashmir. As a result India got opportunity to
enter Kashmir and take hold of water resources (1948)

2 Princely state issues
More than 500 states, dispute started on Kashmir, Junagarh and Hyderabad
Kashmir: Raja Hari Singh signed security treaty with India, Kashmiri people revolted, Quaid e
Azam requested Pak tribes to join Jehad, Nehru went to UN and promised plebiscite.
Nizam of Hyderabad wanted jo join Pak. Lord mounbatten wrote letter to Pak that it is not
physically possible
Nawab of Junagarh, muslim Raja, 300 miles away from Karachi, most people were hindu. India
attacked and captured.
3 Division of assets
At division Indian bank had 1 Billion rupees, by formula Pak got 5:17 to India. Pak got 750 million,
india give 500 mil to pak. After kashmir war india refused to release remaining money, Pak
protested, india give 200 mil but still hasn’t give 50 million (Gandhi went to protest for this)
