1. Bea is 6 years older than Clarize. In ten years, the sum of their age will be 50. Find their
present age?
[(x + 6) + 10] + [x + 10] = 50
=> [(x + 16) + (x + 10)] = 50
=> 2x + 26 = 50
=> 2(x + 13) = 50
=> x + 13 = 50/2
=> x + 13 = 25
=> x = 25 - 13
=> x = 12
The age of Clarize = 12 years old
The age of Bea = 12 + 6 = 18 years old

2. Jane, Paul and Peter can finish painting the fence in 2 hours. If Jane does the job alone
she can finish it in 5 hours. If Paul does the job alone he can finish it in 6 hours. How long
will it take for Peter to finish the job alone?
1/N + 1/6 + 1/5 = ½
1/N = ½ - 1/5 – 1/6 = 2/15
1/N = 15/2
15/2 = 7.5

3. In a sample of 34 people, 18 had blood type O, 9 had blood type A, 5 had blood type B,
and 2 had blood type AB. Set up a table and tree and find the following probabilities.
3.1 A person has blood type O.

4. The sum of three numbers is 138. The second is 5 more than the smallest and the third is
10 more than the smallest. Find the numbers.
1st number = x, 2nd number = 5 + x, 3rd number = 10 + x
x + 5 + x + 10 + x = 138
3x + 15 = 138
3x = 138 - 15
3x = 123
3x/3 = 123/3 = 123/3
123/ 3 = 41
1st number = 41
2nd number = 5 + 41 = 46
3rd number = 10 + 41 = 51
= 41, 46, 51
5. A wild dog swallowed a total of 105 nuts in five days. Each day he managed to eat eight
more than he had on the previous day. How many did he eat on each day?
8+16+24+32=80
105 - 80 = 25
25 ÷ 5 = 5
5 is the starting number of nuts the dog had eaten. then add 8 every day.
= 5, 13, 21, 29, and 37
