Hands-on Training script for Affinity TM 4 Bed

All persons in the group shall test all of the points below to gain practical experience on
the bed functions.

Key features of Affinity Birthing bed:

• Use the hi-low buttons for bed, head and foot section.
• Use the air system to inflate/deflate back- and seat sections
• Locate and test the lock-out controls, how can you see that it has been activated?
• Operate the SideCom controls (if applicable): Entertainment (radio/TV), lighting and Nurse Call
• Position the side rails up and down
• If possible, position the bed with side rails down, next to another bed. Notice the zero gap position.
• Remove the lift off foot section, where do you store the mattress when not being used?
• Remove the stow and go foot section, where do you store the mattress when not being used?
• Where are the labour grips? How do you attach and remove them?
• Where do you position the labour bar?
• Where is the IV pole stored?

Prepare the bed for labour (one of the participants in the bed as a patient):

• Adjust the foot section;


- To position the mother in chair-position, how much automatic tilt do you achieve in the seat
section? Why a tilt?
- Preparing for second stage of labour, removing the foot section, activate the OneStep foot
supports and position the calf supports following the OURS
- Allowing the mother to kneel on the foot section for correction of OP/OT
• Prepare the bed so the mother can be in the following positions;
- Upright position facing the head of the bed, if mother is suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome
- Upright position with the support of a labour bar, preparing for pushing
- Side laying or Sims position

The patient is ready to give birth, how do you prepare the bed with drapings?

• Try out the draping procedure.


• Make sure it covers crucial areas that are difficult to clean.

The mother and baby is in distress during labour, adjust the bed to the following emergency situation:

• Use the CPR function


• Quickly empty the mattress of all air
• Use the trend-like function
• Shoulder dystocia

-What functions do you have to activate, and in what order?
• Prolapsed cord. Quickly relieve pressure on the umbilical cord.
- How?
- What functions do you have to activate, and in what order?
- What angle is the bed in when it is fully in trendelenburg?

Transporting the patient in bed:

• Where are the brakes positioned?


• What is the difference between neutral and steer?
• Where is the power cord storage?
• What functions does the bed still have from battery back up?
• Where is the battery backup located? What does the LED indicate?
• Locate the bumpers and side rail protectors.
